A few notable rivalries between players are inevitable in a series that is the most difficult rivalry in itself. Your body and mind react intensely to every small stimulation when you compete in a tightly fought event, like the IND vs AUS series, which heightens your senses and emotions. It's basic psychology that all people can relate to. Because of this, when certain players, particularly bowlers and batters, square off under such intense circumstances, they become embroiled in a conflict where they defend their own pride. We're going to discuss these rivalries in the Border Gavaskar Trophy's past today.

Sachin Tendulkar vs Shane Warne

On March 9, 1998, batting prodigy Sachin Tendulkar and leg-spin legend Shane Warne engaged in one of the fiercest rivalries in cricket history. The "little master" destroyed Warne across Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium, scoring 155 runs to win the match. Warne famously said that Tendulkar caused him "nightmares" when he was at his best, albeit this was undoubtedly a joke. They were good friends when they weren't wearing their team jerseys. At the same time, they put up some incredible ...
... fights when they were on the field. This rivalry has always been and will continue to be adored by cricket fans worldwide.

Following the historic battle between two giants in the Chennai Test in 1998, the rivalry became the talk of the town. The anticipated matchup between these two talented athletes generated a lot of interest before the series. In the first innings of the contest, Warne took Tendulkar by surprise. However, Sachin employed a different tactic in the second innings, outwitting Warne and completely destroying the Australian bowling order with 155 runs off 191 deliveries without a loss. Tendulkar's heroics helped India win the match by a commanding 179-run margin.

Virat Kohli vs Mitchell Johnson

The rivalry between Johnson and Kohli began during the 2014–15 Border Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, which was marked by aggressive on-field incidents. The Indian powerhouse enjoyed a fantastic run, allowing his supporters to witness four amazing Virat Kohli hundreds from as many Test matches, despite India's 2-0 defeat. One especially notable confrontation occurred when Johnson was attempting to run out and unintentionally struck Kohli with the ball. As a result of the heightened tension, Kohli openly voiced his anger, claiming that he no longer respected the Australian bowler. Despite these intense clashes, Kohli concluded the series as the second-highest run-scorer with an incredible 692 runs at an average of 86.50.

Rishabh Pant vs Nathan Lyon

It's interesting to note that Nathan Lyon has eliminated Pant the most times in Test cricket, defeating him five times in seven matches. Everyone is aware of Pant's exploits against Australia. He helped India win important matches in both the 2018-19 and 2020-21 visits to Australia, and he has been instrumental in winning the Border Gavaskar Trophy in recent years. Pant has scored 624 runs at an average of 62.40 in 7 Test matches, including two fifties and a hundred. One of the most memorable hits, too, is Pant's heroic 89* in the fourth innings during India's most recent trip to Australia. In the upcoming cricket matches, fans will get to see more of their battles and probably their fun banter with each other.
