Fosamax Linked to a Number of Side Effects:

Fosamax, manufactured by Merck, is a prescription drug that is used to treat patients who have osteoporosis or are at a high risk of developing osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a product of an imbalance of bone remodeling where bone is broken down faster than it is remade. This condition may result from a genetic susceptibility, old age, prolonged use of steroids, alcohol abuse, excess smoking, cancer, and other diseases. This condition is more common in post-menopausal women but can be found in men as well. Medical reports indicate that osteoporosis is more common in Caucasians and Asians. Fosamax is a member of the class of drugs known as bisphosphonates that inhibits the cells that break down bone allowing for restoration in balance of bone breakdown and bone rebuilding to maintain bone density.

A number of severe Fosamax side effects have been reported by physicians and patients to the FDA which include:

Allergic reactions including rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness of the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue
...
... Black or bloody feces
Chest pain
Coughing
Vomiting blood
Difficult or painful swallowing
Mouth sores
Worsened heartburn
Blistered or peeling skin
Severe bone, muscle, and joint pain
Swelling of the extremities
Swelling or pain in the jaw

More Information About Fosomax Warnings:

More reports of Fosamax side effects are mounting requiring further Fosamax warnings be added to their packaging to make sure that physicians and patients are well informed about adverse upper gastrointestinal side effects. Esophageal problems include esophageal ulcers, erosions, bleeding, contraction, perforation and severe heartburn have all been reported. Some cases were so severe that patients had to be hospitalized. These severe esophageal side effects are more common in patients who lie down after taking their oral dose of Fosamax or patients that take this drug without a glass of water. It is important that each patient understand the dosing instructions before taking Fosamax. Patients who have a compliance problem due to mental disability should be under close supervision to prevent severe Fosamax side effects. Doctors should know if their patient has prior or current gastrointestinal problems such as gastric or intestinal ulcers, heartburn, or trouble swallowing before prescribing Fosamax to prevent further insult to this system.

If you have experienced stomach or intestinal ulcers, severe heartburn, chest pain, severe bone, muscle, or joint pain or any other Fosamax side effects while on Fosamax you may be entitled to financial compensation. You may want to contact an attorney to see if you qualify for a Fosamax lawsuit. Fosamax lawsuits are currently being filed across the country.
