James Michael Furyk, better known as Jim is a professional golfer. He was born in May of 1970 in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Furyk is one of the bigger names in men's golfing and is known for being one of the more consistent golfers in the world.

Furyk is well known for his consistency, but there are a lot of questions as to how he remains so consistent with his style of play. He has a swing that is extremely unorthodox that seems as if it would interfere with his ability to duplicate it over and over again. Despite his funny swing he is able to put the ball in play in a good position over and over again. He has earned the nickname of The Grinder because of his funny swing by his loyal fans.

Furyk has been near the top of the golfing world for years. Of course Tiger Woods has held on a monopoly on the top spot in the world for ages, but Furyk has managed to advance up the rankings to as high as the number two ranked player in the world. This number two ranking was the top ranking of his career. That ranking came in 2006. He managed to stay within the top 10 players of the world for a very impressive stretch of ...
... more than 300 weeks during the late 1990's to 2009. This number demonstrates the consistency that he has managed despite the funny workings of his swing that many people thought would hold him back.

Over the course of his career he has managed to win a good amount of tournaments. He has collected 15 victories on the PGA tour and has one other victory on the Nationwide Tour.

Of course the most notable of all of these victories for Furyk was the U.S. Open in 2003. The U.S. Open is one of the Major Championships in the PGA tour. These majors attract the most competition of all of the tournaments throughout the year. The major tournaments on the PGA tour include The Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, and the PGA Championship.

Furyk has always played well at the U.S. Open in particular, but 2003 was his exceptional year, where he won the Major Championship. That is the only Major Championship of his career to this point. He has always been a runner-up in the U.S. Open two times in his career. Those tournaments were in 2006 and 2007.

Throughout his career he has managed to perform relatively well in majors. He has finished within the top 6 in every Major Championship tournament at some point in his career. Throughout his career he has amassed 18 finishes in Major Championships within the top 10.

This year Furyk has been struggling a bit in the Major Championships. Furyk produced disappointing results in The Masters as he was not even able to make the cut in the tournament. At the U.S. Open he did make the cut but he was only able to finish 16th overall.
