Not only adults, or senior citizens, qualify for eye exams; children often need them too. That is why parents should ensure that they take their children for eye exams in Twickenham, Whitton, Richmond, or any other area of London when that is called for.

WHEN DO CHILDREN GO FOR EYE EXAMS?

Of course, there is no age limit when it comes to children and the condition of their eyes. Very young children, even children as young as one or two years old may benefit from wearing glasses. This will be established by an optometrist, normally after a visit to a GP, who will send the child and their parents for an eye exam for children.

The parent will normally be the first to notice that the child’s vision is not what it should be like and then take the child to the doctor, after which further action is taken. In slightly older children, those that may have started school, a teacher may notice that the child has vision problems when they cannot see what is written on a black or white board, or what information is offered via a projector and other means – or the child may mention to the teacher they have difficulty ...
... seeing writing and other objects either near or far, in other words, their sight is more limited than that of their mates.

START EARLY

The above are examples of children whose eyesight may not be as good as it should be. This does not mean, however, that parents should not schedule their children’s visit to the optometrist as they would do for themselves, that is once, or at the very least, every second year. This way the optometrist may find issues that nobody was aware of – and prescribe the correct treatment, whether that is a pair of glasses or another form of treatment. So, even if you do not suspect any issues, start taking your young child from early on for their annual eye exams in Twickenham, Brighton, Manchester, in Bedford.

In certain cases, the optometrist may also be able to notice a small imperfection which may be easily corrected with early intervention. If left too late, certain children may develop serious problems, which may not always be that easy to correct later on when they are already falling behind at school or feel they are left out of normal activities that children enjoy, simply because their eyesight is not good enough.

NOTHING TO BE SCARED OF

Good, experienced optometrists deal with children all the time, and they know exactly how to make the children’s eye exam a visit that can be relaxed and even fun – and nothing to be scared of. Interactive methods, specialized equipment, and testing techniques aimed at the needs of the young child are employed to ensure a thorough eye test or exam.

The experienced eye professional knows what to look for and what action or treatment to describe should they feel there is cause for concern. This could include a prescription for glasses, which they discuss with the parents and put the child’s mind at ease about, or it could be more serious, in which case further action is taken.

Good optometrists can establish so much when they consult children during eye exams. They can establish your child’s ability to see well, objects near and far, they understand that the child’s learning skills depend on good eyesight and will, therefore, ensure that nothing is left to chance when they test your child’s eyesight.

They know, and they use the most applicable tools and assessments to ensure they understand everything about your child’s ocular health.
