Playing a game of golf requires you to understand the etiquettes of the game besides the rules. Players should adhere to a set of guidelines known as golf etiquettes. These guidelines comprise of safety, fair play, player's responsibility towards the course etc. However, it is not legally binding on you and there is no penalty for infringement of these rules. But, a professional player must adhere to this in order to improve the game's overall experience. Not just for yourself but for others too!

Such socially acceptable behaviour will make the game enjoyable by all. Players should remain in one place while others play their shots. They should alert the green staff stationed ahead, when they are about to hit the ball in order to avert any injury to them. Care should be taken to inform others who are in danger of being hit by the ball. If your ball goes in the direction of the player or green staff ahead, you should shout out ‘fore'. He will soon get defensive on hearing this.

Consider those rules which will definitely result in a penalty. If you hit your fellow player's ball, then you will incur a penalty ...
... of two strokes. If your club causes the ball to move or goes out of the bound, you will have a penalty of one stroke. You can't have extra swings at a ball and if you lose the ball you will have a penalty of one stroke and distance.

Other than this, you may also be disqualified if you deceive, play an improper play or cause rule infringements.

Buying a club for the game needs enough attention! If you like to play long distance fair way shots then you must shop for Woods or fairway metal. Each club length differs and serves different purpose.

Irons offer you more dynamic shots and are used for a variety of shots. These are shorter than woods in length. Driver club is longer when compared with woods and irons.

In a nutshell they can be of three different types:

Driver is the longest
Woods is shorter than driver club
Iron is the shortest of all clubs.

In addition to the above rules, you must also consider the positioning while playing the game, flight faults and fixes so that you can avoid faults. Most of the time, you may ignore them and strike a bad shot. Plan out your position and hit it with the right rhythm and balance.
