Spring Festival couplets also called door couplets,they have neat prose,antithesis,concise and lovely terms.Couplets tell backgrounds of different periods,expressing people’s good desires.They are unusual literature form in saucers.

 

Spring Festival couplets originated from peach woodland charms (Peach woodland charms were worn in the both sides of door in Zhou period,they are rectangle.People supposed that peach woodland charm can draw off bad ghosts.)

 

In five dynasties,a man who called Zhang Xun in palace,West Shu (Shu is Sichuan Province) wrote terms on the peach woodland charm.Then it is the first part of Spring Festival couplets in saucers.To Song period,the Spring Festival couplets were still the peach woodland charms.

 

Pasting couplets in Spring Festival began in Song period,and Ming period was its prosperous time.Zhuyuanzhang,an ruler in Ming period liked to wirte couplets totally greatly and he regularly encouraged his people to wirte.

Door focal couplets:They are pasted on the focal door.

Frame couplets:They are worn on the both sides of door.

Horizontal couplets:They are pasted on the door subtitle.

Pieces couplets:They are pasted in different spaces according to their inside.

 

The Blessing word:People like to paste the Blessing word when they paste couplets.And the Blessing word they paste are reversed.Here,I have an interesting rumor regarding it.

 

It is said that Zhu Yuanzhang,one of the emperors in Ming period,required to make the Blessing word as a motion to execute superstar.sovereign Ma,who was very kind-hearted asked everyone pasted a Blessing word on the family door.One of family didn’t know the word,he reversed the word.When the ruler asked others to examine the motion,they found the spot.He was totally livid regarding it,he would execute that family.sovereign Ma was nervous,she musing a good idea.She said to Zhu Yuanzhang that the family knew he would come,thus they reversed the word deliberately,it meaned that blessing came.Zhu Yuanzhang was lucky using this gossip and he gave up slaughter that family.From then on,in order to pursue auspiciousness and to recollect sovereign Ma,people like to contrary the blessing word to paste.

 

Spring Festival couplets note assenting welfare and pursuit,at the same time,it necessary to conform different position and category.Such as farmers have their couplets,the inside regarding governess are different from them.The customs for thrashing Spring Festival couplets:

when we face the door,the first part of couplets is on our right region,the instant is on our left region.regularly they have the relations in grounds and provoke.And the means to differentiate the frist and the instant part is that if the rendition of their last word is the third or fourth,that is to say it is the first,otherwise it is the instant.
