When you go to buy a car, it can feel like you're in a war. And the salespeople are the generals on both sides. Their goal is to win your business, even if it means using some tricks to get there. Here's how they do it:
They use the good cop/bad cop strategy.
The good cop/bad cop strategy is a sales tactic used by Car Dealers in Bathurst to manipulate customers. It's also known as the "good-guy/bad-guy" technique, because one of your salespeople will act like he's on your side while another tries to sell you something else.

The goal is to make you feel like you have no choice but to agree with the second person's demands or else risk being treated poorly by both employees. This can be very effective at getting people who are already feeling pressured into making decisions against their better judgment--and it's often used on people who don't know what they're doing when buying a new car!

They hide all the costs in the payment.
Dealers make their money on the back end. That means they're making a profit from the interest rate, financing fees, lease payments and insurance costs. They know that these hidden costs are hard to calculate and understand so they hide them from you as much as possible.
The dealer will try to get you into a car with a monthly payment that looks good on paper but doesn't reflect what your actual cost will be after all of these extra fees have been added up at signing time (which is when you sign all those papers).
They don't tell you everything about your car payment.
When you're buying a car, the dealer is likely to tell you about how much the car costs and how much they're asking for your trade-in. But what about the monthly payment? What about interest rates and down payments? If they don't tell you these things, chances are good that they're hiding something from you.

The interest rate on your loan can make or break your deal. A higher interest rate means more money coming out of pocket every month--and sometimes even more than what the car cost in the first place! So make sure that if there's one thing to ask about when buying a new vehicle, it's this: "What's my monthly payment going be?"
Do not sign anything until after negotiating down both price and financing terms with multiple lenders/financial institutions (if possible).

They turn negotiations into drama.
One of the most common tactics used by Car Dealers Bathurst is to make you feel like you are losing and they are winning. They do this through a number of different techniques:

They will try to convince you that another customer has offered them more money for your trade-in than what they've offered. This should be a red flag because if this were true, there would likely be other offers on the table as well.
They may also claim that the dealership is losing money on this deal and therefore needs higher payments from buyers in order for everyone involved (the dealer, salesperson and finance company) still come out ahead financially in the end--even though those profits would come directly out of your pocket!

Conclusion
We know that buying a new car can be stressful, but it doesn't have to be. We hope that by knowing what to watch out for, you can avoid any surprises and get exactly what you want at the right price!
