Julia Roberts: A Winsome Beauty

From the moment of her appearance in the screen in role of street prosti-tute2 Cinderella3, who wins the life prize-heart of millionaire-Richard Gere in
Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts was announced to be one of the brightest stars of the present time in Holly-wood. To tell the truth, she is not treated seriously
like dramatic actress. Her credo4 is romantic comedy or light drama. She has a peculiar prankish5 attractiveness. It's quite natural that many people compare
her with young Odry Hepburn. Like Hepburn, Ro¬berts has beauty not typical for Holly-wood. Skinny like cane, with long legs and rich curly hair, she is more
awkward than elegant6. Her big grey eyes and big mouth can express the finest emotions in the screen.
Even when she is not shot in films (some people ironically say-especially when she is not shot7), Roberts manages to catch heading of most printed
publications all over the world and photographers fervently8 document all smallest details of her private life. When after the accepted tradition of Hogs and
Hifers Manhattan closed club, Julia had to leave her ...
... brassiere'in the col-lection of private things of famous persons of Hollywood which belonged to the
owner of the establishment, then the size of her bust'°was printed all over the world and publishers made much money on this figure. All romantic pas-sions
of the actress are thoroughly examined by mass media; rumors are spread just from the moment of handshake. The raised attention of press to her person did
not hinder Julia from being twice nominated for "Oscar" prize in age younger than 24 and to be highly paid actress who gets good box-office receipts with
only her name".
The image of a neighbor girl that brought success to Julia Roberts, has its real roots; she was born in small town of Smyrna near Atlanta12, state of
Geor¬gia13 , in family of a seller of vacuum cleaners and church secretary. Her parents divorced when she was just 4 years old and father who had deep
relations with Julia, died of cancer five years after the divorce. Her both parents were rather artistic persons some years before the birth of daughter they
arranged seminars for actors and scriptwriters. But in her childhood Julia dreamed to become a veterinary14. She had that dream till finishing school. And in
age of 1 7 she went to New York to her sister Lisa, with great will to become an ac-tress.
She registered to some actor courses but finished none of them. For paying growing bills Julia signed a contract with fashion agency Click. Clanship in show
business helped her to get a small first role in 1986. Her elder brother Eric persuaded director Eric Masterson to take his sister to his film Red Blood. The
film was shelved by critics even before it was shot15 ( it was shown on the screen only in 1990). And Julia postponed her histrionic debut till 1988, till
episodic role in telefilm Criminal Story. In the same year Roberts deserved praise for participation in two films Satisfaction and Mystical Pizza. Critics
de-clared promising16 future to actress-debutante17. They were not mistaken. In 1989 she played the doomed bride in Steel Magnoliathat brought her a
nomination to "Oscar" for the best woman role.
In 1990 the film Pretty Woman came to the screen, it turned a talented beginner actress into superstar. Accordingly there came next nomination to "Os-car".
It is interesting but the film script of Pretty Woman first was a drama resembling the script of Leaving Las Vegas. But the film company " Disney" bought up
the script and producers decided that the film should become a light romantic comedy. Director Harry Marshall had to agree-and there came a super hit, which
gathered a record sum. The following two films- Neighbors and In Bed with Enemy confirmed her histrionic talent.
