The group stage of this season's competition kicks off this week and BBC Sport takes a look at some of the things to look out for. Erling Haaland has been on a roll in the Premier League and scored his first hat-trick in just four games last month as City turned around and beat Crystal Palace. The Norway international left Borussia Dortmund for Manchester City Football Club in the summer and the Champions League group draw has ensured a swift reunion with his old club. City will play Sevilla in their first game of the week, while Dortmund will visit the Etihad Stadium next week. Champions League success has kept City out of contention, but manager Pep Guardiola wants Haaland to continue his stellar record in European club competition, where he scored 27 goals in 25 games for Molde, Salzburg and Dortmund. Like Haaland, former Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski will face the side he left to join Barcelona this summer in the group stage. Lewandowski and Barcelona travel to Munich on Tuesday, September 13, before hosting Czech side Plzen Viktoria on Wednesday. Italy's Inter Milan ...
... comfortably completed the toughest group in this season's competition.

Lewandowski has scored 67 Champions League goals for Bayern, but former Liverpool striker Sadio Mane seems to be doing well to fill the Polish striker's place in the Bundesliga so far, with 5 goals in 7 cup games. One of the loudest draws of the group tournament is in Group A, where 2021-2022 will face each other. year's finalists Liverpool and Scottish side Rangers. The two teams meet for the first time this season at Anfield on October 4 and Ibrox on October 12. Rangers are back in the Champions League for the first time since 2010, while they, along with Celtic, are back in the Champions League for the first time since 2007. Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 halted all football in the country, but the Ukrainian Premier League resumed last month and Shakhtar Donetsk are playing in this season's Champions League and Premier League Table.

They are in Group D with champions Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Celtic. Shakhtar will play their home game against Legia Warsaw at Stadion Wojska Polskiego in Poland, almost 1,000 miles from Donetsk.

They kicked off their Champions League campaign in Leipzig, Germany on Tuesday night, with their first 'home' game on Wednesday 14 September against Celtic, after 18,000 tickets were sold in one day, they have received huge support from Polish fans. Paris Saint-Germain, one of the favorites to win the Champions League, will host Juventus.

Both sides will be hoping to finish the game at the end of the day and, like Haaland and Lewandowski, Juventus winger Angel Di Maria will be reunited with his former team early when he returns to the Parc des Princes on Tuesday. According to statistician Nelson Gracenot, Real Madrid are favorites to win the Champions League this season.

Gracenote's Euro Club Index simulation shows that Real Madrid have a 21% chance of winning the trophy next May. The other main contenders are Manchester City (20%), Liverpool (19%) and Bayern Munich (10%). Manchester City or one of last season's two finalists, Real Madrid and Liverpool, have a 60 percent chance of winning this season's competition. Simon Graves, head of sports analysis at Nielsen Gracenote, said: "With the game not yet underway, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Liverpool already have more than a 90% chance of reaching the knockout stages of this season's Champions League. Real Madrid's chance of group stage talks is as high as 98 %.Start playing.
