Public Art & Creative Placemaking

Traditional monuments are giving way to contemporary artwork, and real estate developers are understanding that art improves and contributes to their properties. Dan Droz, an American interdisciplinary artist, entrepreneur, author, industrial designer, and educator, 'retired' from his successful jobs at the age of 69 to pursue sculpting full-time. Since then, Droz has worked with developers, museums, and public venues to create a sculpture that engages people and enhances environments in public settings.
Droz is currently working on a variety of public projects, including "The Gathering," a colossal sculpture that will be installed at the Heritage Trail's entry in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to establish a new gathering site while demonstrating how the potential of sculpture can improve public areas. In May, a similar sculpture will be unveiled in front of the Museum of Art and History in Lancaster, California. And his "Family Portrait" sculpture, which is on display at the Pittsburgh International Airport, has recently sparked interest as a venue for families to snap "selfies." "Remembering Youth" is a public art installation ...
... in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. attracted the artwork is nearing completion, with a height of 12 feet with the purpose of being displayed in a public space.
He works with a variety of designers and finishers from his workshop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to create standalone, hanging, wall sculptures that push the limits of conventional sculpting and fabrication. He began focusing the majority of his time on sculpture-related artworks in 2018 and has since participated in over twenty public shows and five solo displays.
Droz understands that communities can enhance their surroundings and generate a feeling of belongingness over local parks, streets, and state entities by participating in public art initiatives that involve them in various stages of the creative process. Moreover, public art projects are most effective when they are part of a bigger, integrative, multicultural strategy to revitalize a city or area. Public art can thus assist communal life as well as the utility and vitality of public areas.
Dan’s knowledge of materials and techniques, as well as his predilection for inventing new ways to create things, are tools for achieving his formal and thematic goals. His scientific education has benefited his curiosity about the substance and formal capabilities of his own work, as well as his interest in experimentation, and will continue to do so.
