One of the most ancient philosophies' is Astrology and it is still going strong today. It all began many thousands of years ago with the ancient Greeks. They evolved the belief that the position of the sun and the planets had an effect on a person's life and future events. The actual word "astrology" is Greek and means "Science of the stars".

Looking into our past it is known that people used the sun and moon positions in the sky and the appearance of certain constellations as time clocks for planting crops and predicting weather. Nomadic tribes used to use the constellations of the skies for navigation which went on to be used by many civilizations.

Thanks to William Lilly, a famous astrologer in the 17th century, made the practice much more acceptable by calling it "Christian Astrology". He wrote a book with that name which was highly received and hugely popular. Mr Lilly caused a lot of controversy in 1666 by predicting the Great Fire of London some 14 years before it happened. When the fire happened people believed he was responsible but there was no evidence to support this. He was tried for the offence ...

A persons personal horoscope chart is related to their birth time, date and year. Because there are 12 parts to the year which are each named after a constellation which is in the sky at the time. Every horoscope has both positive and negative aspects. To customise your horoscope it depends exactly where your birth day and time falls and under what sign.

The twelve horoscope signs are: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. A lot of people read their own horoscopes for the day from local newspapers but they can be quite vague and not really tailored for every person. To get the best reading you need to have an individual chart created with is based on your actual time of birth, place of birth and month and year.

Other countries have horoscopes like the Chinese. Chinese horoscopes use methods based on animals which are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, monkey, boar or pig, horse, sheep, rooster and the dog. The Chinese horoscope has been used for centuries but its origin is unclear.

Consulting your horoscope should be taken as a bit of fun. People who run their lives according to their horoscopes are disillusioned and should stop taking it so seriously. Yes getting a unique chart created is one thing but to live your day to day live according to them is ludicrous. Reading about someone's sign is a guide to what they are like could be used to help you improve relations. But regardless of what horoscopes say, it's what you do with your life now that counts.
