Your Contribution Can Protect Children From The Many Effects Of Poverty

The rights of children must be protected at all times. This is the fundamental requirement for children in every nation as their overall well-being in a safe environment will help them grow and prosper. Child participation, healthcare, and education are some of the birthrights of every child that contribute to their mental, physical, emotional, and social development.
Poverty, unfortunately, challenges the growth of children and deteriorates it. Poverty-ridden childhoods deprive children of essential resources. Their quality of life is affected due to the many repercussions of poverty which holds them back from happier and healthier childhoods.
1. Due to poverty in India, children’s education gets compromised. Many parents from marginalized communities hold their children back from regular education. Education is still considered to be a luxury than a necessity. This is why many children are either never enrolled in school or are forced to drop out soon, and in most cases, they are never re-enrolled. DISE 2016-17 ...
... and RGI Census Population Projection 2016 further validate this as an estimated 46.24 million children were out of school in 2016.
2. Poverty is also one of the main reasons why the health of children is compromised. Many pregnant mothers are found to be anaemic and children continue to suffer from malnutrition. NFHS 4 2016 shows that every 3rd child under 5 years of age in India is severely malnourished. Due to a lack of resources and awareness, children do not receive timely immunizations, essential nutrients during their formative years, or complete health care throughout their growing years which worsens their condition.
3. Child labour is another dangerous by-product of poverty. To compensate for a child’s feeding mouth, they are put to work from an early age in hazardous conditions. Census 2011 further highlights that there are more than 10 million working children, under the age of 14, in India. They can be seen working in factories, farms, restaurants, and even as domestic workers. This considerably affects them in the long run and deprives them of a wholesome childhood.
