As more and more people are again dreaming about getting close to nature or their favourite destinations, the hotel industry is also witnessing signs of revival. The pandemic has made travellers very cautious about their health. A warm smile can add brilliance even to the worst day. In the hotel industry, this goes a long mile. So, a receptionist must know how to welcome each guest with a genuine and warm smile. It is a duty to ensure that no caller or visitor feel uninvited.

Computer Literacy

The ability to use a computer to draft letters or send emails is now a necessary skill for any desk job, and that of a hotel receptionist is not an exception. Hotels prefer to hire people who have some working familiarity with hotel property management or housekeeping software.

Stress Management

Receptionists generally have to work under high pressure, such as handling dissatisfied guests while working under stringent deadlines. So, they must know how to manage their stress effectively to remain calm and composed in a fast-paced work environment.

Multilinguality

The ability to speak in languages other than the native tongue is an asset in the hospitality sector. Multilinguality proves to be a boon because receptionists are often required to interact with guests from all over the world. Proficiency in multiple languages helps the receptionist to effectively deal with difficult situations during guest service and make the guests feel comfortable.

Teamwork

A hotel receptionist often has to work with other departments such as management, housekeeping, and more to ensure a happy stay for guests. So, she must know how to work as a team by keeping aside individual differences.

Some other necessary skills to achieve success are attention to detail, hard work, patience, multitasking, and maintaining a clean workspace.
