It's always a good idea to prepare in advance and have the contact information of a trusted, reliable locksmith in case a problem is to ever arise. Don't assume you can put off finding a satisfactory locksmith, especially if you reside in a busy city like Toronto. Instead, you should begin looking into locksmiths now so you will know who to call later.

To get a general idea of well-known and reputable locksmiths, begin by asking local friends and acquaintances in Toronto if they know of any locksmiths they might recommend. You might be tempted to search the Internet for locksmith testimonials, but you should be cautious. Remember that anyone can post just about anything on the Internet, even locksmiths themselves. Why might this be a problem? Some locksmiths, including those in Toronto, post false testimonials on the Internet to lure in customers. It's best to ask real, ordinary people for recommendations before searching the Internet so that you avoid scams. If a locksmith did quality work for a friend or colleague, chances are that same locksmith will quite likely do quality work for you as well.

Once you've ...
... compiled a list of a few possible locksmiths, it's time to do a bit of research. Hop on your computer to see what information you can find about the locksmiths you're considering. You will want to find a locksmith that can handle your individual needs. Not every locksmith is good for everyone. For example, your needs might require a locksmith that operates 24 hours a day.

Of course, be on the lookout for fraud or customer complaints but understand that not everything on the Internet is true. If you find the locksmiths' websites, copy down their service rates and prices. You will want to compare prices later so you can get the best deal. In addition, you will want to look into the locksmiths' credentials and qualifications. You might be surprised by how many unqualified locksmiths operate in Toronto. Avoid these inferior locksmiths at all costs.

When you meet a locksmith in person, ask him to provide proof of identification. Verify that his credentials and locksmith memberships (if any) match the identification he provided you. If you stay on your toes and do enough research, you should be able to find a great locksmith in Toronto.
