A civil engineer / graduate has following options to make career into. It shall be a wise decision to Choose Career to ensure continuous growth:

Most of the graduates nowadays opt for higher studies. There are plenty of options available such as PGP or PG in Construction Project Management / Structures / Soil / Transport / Environmental / Hydraulics etc. are some of the options. Most of the students go for Structures without identifying real opportunities. Comparatively Construction Project Management is a new field and has more potential of career opportunities. MBA also can be opted for by those who would like to go for business. One shall remember the job positions and eligibility while choosing the PG specialization.

Service / Job in construction industry as Trainee Engineer / Jr. Engineer in various departments like Estimation, Billing, Execution, Quality Control, Planning, MIS, Materials / Procurement, Tendering / Contracting etc. Some of the positions need earlier experience.

Business option will get open after few years of experience in the respective field /area. Family background and financial support along with market contacts are preferred.
Materials supplier also can be a good option. It needs family background / financial support and market contact.
Consultancy is also a good option but obviously one shall be master / expert of that particular service. Consultancy in Structures, Project Management, Soil testing, Construction contracting, MEP, Green Building, Testing etc. can be started. Memberships of various professional bodies will surely help here.

It shall be remembered that you shall have career vision first. Second important thing is that your personality shall match to the option / position you are looking at. Your job skills shall match to the job requirements. Sufficient exposure in that area will help you opt for good salary. If interest doesn't match with vision / career goal then what one gets is just frustration and limited growth.
