Limassol, Cyprus's second-largest city, is a blend of ancient and new. The old town, with its tiny alleys and medieval fortress, spreads from the historic fishing harbour. This area has recently been rebuilt, and it now houses a vibrant mix of fantastic pubs and restaurants.

Top-tier hotels border the coastline in the newest part of town, often with private beaches accessible directly from the hotel. The old and new areas are connected by a magnificent promenade lined with bustling beach bars.

Then there's Limassol's nightlife, which appeals to everyone — from young adults to romantic couples and families with small children, as well as anyone else looking to enjoy the single life. However, Limassol is also well-known for its underwater diving experiences. Diving in Limassol guarantees to be of the most memorable diving experiences one can have across Cyprus.

Following the government’s initiative to boost Cyprus’ dive tourism, it was decided to take initiative by creating an artificial reef just off the coast of Limassol, which is now part of a fish reserve. Built in 2014, this artificial reef consists ...
... mostly of two wrecks, namely the Lady Thetis and Costandis, which are located in depths of 18 meters and 23 meters, respectively.

Cyprus has sunk not only Constandis and the Lady Thetis in recent years, but also Nemesis III at Poraras in 2013, Laboe in Paphos the following year, and Kerynia in Ayia Napa in 2015. There is no denying that the creation of these artificial reefs was vital not only to replenish the declining fish population in Cypriot waters but also to lengthen the tourism season for Cyprus, transforming Cyprus into a profitable diving destination by bringing more money into the economy through tourism.

These sunken vessels have proven to be a great success in terms of providing more diving opportunities for both local divers and divers visiting Cyprus from abroad. They also provide excellent habitat for a variety of marine creatures and fish species like small Tuna, Moray, grouper, and Barracuda, which was previously only observed around the Zenobia shipwreck site.

Between March and November, several diving center boats can be seen around these artificial reefs, with more during the high season. Not only that, but with more diving options now available, the artificial reefs have increased spending in the local economy, in shops, restaurants, and bars, from local Cypriots, now wanting to learn to dive and explore their beautiful waters to local divers enjoying some relaxing time with their families.

While Zenobia is regarded as one of the top ten shipwreck dive sites in the world, bringing in an estimated €22 million per year to Cyprus, the Lady Thetis and Constandis are also popular among international divers. Scuba diving is a fascinating experience and diving in Limassol offers some of the best diving in Cyprus and is one of the best places to learn how to scuba dive with PADI certified dive instructors.

With so many things to do in Limassol, enjoying a perfect day out may appear challenging, but by planning every element of your vacation and arranging your family adventures ahead of time, you will ensure a great time.

Limassol is an excellent destination for both inexperienced and seasoned divers. The tranquil, crystal clear waters and shallow dive sites provide great conditions for first-time underwater bubble blowers, and for more experienced divers, the above-mentioned range of world-class wrecks, complicated caverns, and overhangs provide a wealth of underwater fascination. But remember, for the best diving experiences and value for money, be sure to book with a well-established, PADI-certified diving center.
