Social media has very quickly seeped into our lives, becoming a major part of our lives. From checking on some early morning news to checking in on friends, to working a job or managing a business and so many other day to day activities, social media has truly taken over our lives and how. The major boon of social media is that it allows us to connect with people from all over the world, something that nothing has ever actually helped us with. We use boon as social media is not all good. That is the thing. Nothing so unbelievably huge and helpful can be all about the good. There have to be some (read - many) cons about it as well, right? Let us talk about all those pros and cons that come with being a part of this digital world and the best (and the worst) things about it, that is Social Media -

The pros of social media -
● Being able to connect with people all across the world - Well, yes. You may have innumerous relatives residing outside of India, multiple friends who have moved there, you can connect with them all without thinking about the ISD (International Direct ...
... Dialing). Not only that, you can literally make so many new friends and acquaintances just with a conversation by finding them online on any platform you use and connecting with them over DMs or chat heads. It is just THAT simple!

● Easy and instantaneous communication - You have news to share but need to post a letter to share it? Well, gone are those days, now all you gotta do is pick up your phone, with a valid internet connection of course, and just write a message to that friend. Now that can be done on any Indian social network.

● Always at your fingertips - No one, we repeat, no one anymore steps out of their house without their smartphone. You can literally connect with people right at your fingertips through any Indian social network.

The cons of social media -
● Privacy issues - Privacy is one of the major concerns for users. While many apps claim to maintain private information and not release it, history and case studies say otherwise. A social network with privacy is a must and a necessity, and there are many Indian social networks that are perfect for that.

● Mental health problems - Mental health is another major concern. With social media, there have been many instances of users going through many mental health problems like depression, social isolation, anxiety, even social anxiety (no they are not the same thing), and many more. Social media can create an extremely toxic environment for people and hence, it is a must to know where to draw a line between real life and reel life.

● A huge distraction - Social media was not meant to be a distraction, it was meant to be a means to connect with people. But instead, it became a huge distraction for its users. People get majorly distracted with all the pings and notifications that social networking apps keep sending to notify them about a message, or a sale, a like or a share. It takes the essence of calmness out of the user’s mind and gives them a perpetual distraction.

Social media has many cons, but every app has a loophole. You just have to find a way around it. For instance, you can start using a social network with privacy, use the screen time feature on smartphones to track your social media usage and ultimately, take some measures to make it healthy. Not using social media is not the solution, using it moderately is. Try it, we are sure it will help.
