Children are often called the curious little machines. That’s because they have an inherent drive to know about everything. Why is the grass green, why is the water wet, why is the fire hot, and a lot of other questions keep popping up every now and then in their young, inquisitive minds. And it is this inquisitiveness of children that keeps them open to embracing all the knowledge that comes their way. In short, their curiosity serves as the fuel that keeps them driven to learn and innovate.
No denying, all of you want your children to have their creative juices flowing. But do you know that there are certain things that most people do that end up disrupting the curiosity and creativeness of kids? So here, in this article today, we, at DPS Kota, one of the top 5 schools in Kota, would like to draw your attention to a few of such curiosity killers. Avoiding these will be best to keep your kids’ curiosity unaltered and their drive to learn intact.

Losing your cool over the mistakes
We understand how you feel when you find your house in a state of mess, ...
... when your little one keeps experimenting with flour all around in the kitchen, or when you find the handwash scattered all over on the bathroom floor. Yes, anger and frustration are natural to take over. But what if we tell you that freaking out on such occasions is actually one of the key curiosity killers!
Look at it this way – when your child decides to play with flour, he/she is actually trying to figure out what all can be done with that white powdery substance. Or when the little one thinks of taking a look into the bottle of handwash, he/she is basically trying to have a look at the consistency of the fluid or how exactly does it lead to the formation of those magical, attention-catching bubbles. No matter how irritating all that looks to the adult eyes, it is actually the way children learn! It is these little experiments that children do on their own that help stir their interest in learning more and knowing more.

Overscheduling the kids to establish discipline and routine
Yes, establishing a routine has its own share of benefits, and we are not denying that at all. But when the focus shifts to attempting to bring in a routine to every little thing the kids do, it turns into a problem. At times, the desire to make sure that every second counts, especially because the world is going through cut-throat competition, ends up taking away the innate will of the young minds to learn and explore. Hence, don’t always ask them to be in the race; let them spend some time being their true selves, let them get bored, let them devise up new things to keep themselves busy.

Deciding for them what to learn and what not
One thing that almost all parents do is to offer regular guidance to their kids about various things in life, be it academics, sports, careers, or the general happenings around the world. And while it is something that is really appreciable, it could lead to disrupting the curiosity of children when parents, instead of giving out suggestions, begin taking every small decision for the kids. Hence, instead of telling them what to do and what not for every little thing, try and identify their interests. Let them take the lead at times in deciding what they wish to learn. After all, not all kids would show equal interest in visiting a science fair; some might even prefer an art museum. It all depends on their individual interests and skills, and as such, forcing them to learn what you think is right is actually not going to help them much.
At DPS Kota, recognized among the top 5 schools in Kota, we believe that the drive to learn is innate in every kid, and the prime factor that drives the same is their curiosity. It is hence essential that their curiosity is accepted as well as celebrated. Don’t let them lose the power of their curiosity by trying to mold them into a rigid routine. As long as their creative juices keep flowing, they will remain driven to seek and attain new knowledge, and being an active learner is the first step on the path of growing into a happy and successful individual.
