How to publish your own book

After I said that I self-published my most recent book, I had a lot of questions from others who were thinking of how to publish their own book.

This is what you must do:

Step 1:
Start writing the book. With a TV show or movie going in the background, I get some of my greatest writing done at night. Others choose to write or listen to music first thing in the morning.
My sole piece of advice is to make your writing process a routine, whatever it is. Make time to write every day, even if the quality of your writing is poor. You should exercise your writing muscle regularly.

Step 2:
Revise the manuscript. I wrote my book using Google Docs. That way, I could share my plan and a draft of the book with a large number of people who could read it, revise it, and provide feedback all through the internet.
While I was drafting my outline and draught, a few folks offered their opinions. Others offered feedback once the manuscript was completed. Getting criticism along the way helped me avoid becoming too wedded to whatever I wrote.

The book must be formatted. If you prefer to do it yourself, Amazon gives templates for creating the correct format for a paperback book. You can outsource this, but I chose to do it myself so that I could have some control over how things appeared.
Just keep in mind that after you've uploaded your final copy, you might need to fiddle with the formatting because it doesn't always transition precisely to Amazon's system.

Step 4:
You'll need to create a cover design. Although Amazon provides a facility for creating your own cover, this is another phase in the process that I outsourced. For this, you'll need to know the dimensions of the paperback copy.

Step 5:
You must promote the book. When it comes to generating revenue for your book, you're on your own. You can pay Amazon to promote your book, but this is something I've never done before.

Step 6:
Make sure you have realistic expectations. In the past, I've seen statistics claiming that the average self-published author sells 250 volumes. As a result, don't expect to get rich doing this.
In reality, when you include in the number of hours you put in, most books pay significantly less than minimum wage.

Writing a book is a time-consuming process, so make sure it's something you truly want to do.
It could be because it's a topic or tale about which you feel compelled to write. It could also be a source of personal pride that you have a book published and available to the public.
Many people in the finance industry consider a book to be a kind of business card or a method to get a foot in the door for some speaking engagements.
