The Value Of Tooling And Injection Molding In Today's Economy
Injection molding is a process of mass producing plastic parts with consistency. Manufacturing companies employ injection molding techniques in order to produce a large volume of plastic parts in a relatively short amount of time. Companies use plastic injection molding because it greatly speeds up production while reducing costs in the long run. Injection molding also requires very little staff supervision, because the whole process is virtually automated.
Many of today's electronic equipment involve any number of plastic parts. The process is used in prototyping, where a one-off sample of the product is created for analysis and sampling. Injection molding speeds up the prototyping process, allowing manufacturers to see the product before it goes to mass production.
Injection molding works in several stages. Molten plastic is first squeezed into a plastic mold, then pressure is applied to form the desired shape. Then the hot mold is cooled, finally producing the plastic part. Consider that all this happens in just fractions of a second, and it is easy to see how injection molding helps speed up manufacturing.
Not ...
... only is injection molding fast, it is also precise. Because the entire process is controlled by a computer, everything happens in quick and accurate succession, thus ensuring an exact plastic mold every time. Plastic parts such as knobs and casings for electronic equipment, plastic toys, and even car parts such as radiator caps and wire couplings are made using injection molding.
Similar to injection molding, tooling refers to the process of quickly fabricating metal parts in large quantities. The process often makes use of a machine tool, which is a powered mechanical device used to fabricate metal components of machines. Machines such as the lathe are used to manufacture metal parts in large numbers, and they often involve power sources other than human intervention, although if properly set up they can also be powered by humans.
In manufacturing and production, processes such as tooling and molding design allow manufacturers to increase the rate at which parts are produced, while maintaining quality and reliability. Without these processes, many machines and equipment would simply fail to exist in great quantity, resulting in a severely saturated market for these products. This would have significantly affected the prices of these products, causing problems in the economy.
