'Are we there yet?' is a question so recognized by parents the world over that it has become something of a cliché in the repertoires of observational comedians and family films. It's a question that grates on the nerves after a time and one that suggests your children are bored or unhappy. If you're getting an airport taxi this can be exacerbated as your kids are no doubt excited to be going on holiday and as you're free to 'pester' as you're not driving. An airport taxi should in theory be an opportunity for you as a parent to go 'off duty' and let your driver worry about things such as luggage and getting to your destination on time, so it's crucial if you want a pleasant journey that you find a way to distract your children long enough to get your money's worth and begin to feel on holiday.

Another less square eyed form of entertainment is a book and this too will keep your child quiet for a long time if they're the reading type. While a magazine will distract their attention in an airport taxi temporarily, it will take a novel to fully absorb them and take them out of themselves. Music too is of course a good way to keep a child happy at any age, and the beauty of ear plugs is that they can't complain or ask questions.

If you wanted a more sociable distraction however then you can bring a CD and ask your airport taxi service to play it for you. This is great if your child has a favorite CD though it does mean you have to listen to the thing at least once and quite probably on repeat. Similarly many limo services include a DVD player in the back of the chairs which allows you to watch a film on your journey, and if they do then they will likely have brought a selection for you to choose from. Call ahead and find out if this is the case, and maybe take a DVD from your collection that you know will be a hit. This way you'll find your child is so engrossed it will be you bothering them when you want something.
