Knowing The Importance Of Pattern Making In Garment Creation

Pattern making is the art of creating patterns by developing templates from which clothing is sewn. The process of pattern making helps to come out with the imagination of the developer from the sketching until the end product is sewn.
Pattern makers are also known as technical designers. When fashion designers complete their garment designing, pattern makers work to prepare the pattern of the garment using Sitam AB pattern methodology.
Understanding pattern making process
The garment making process consists of dissimilar but interdependent steps. The correct fit, aesthetic appearance, and drape attributes of clothing depends solely on every garment making procedure. The process is considered to be the first step in producing garments.
While making a garment according to the design, templates are used to trace various parts of garments on fabric before cutting as well as assembling. Generally, patterns are made of paper templates that have become a skilled technical design process over the decades.
In the late medieval period, ...
... fabric weaving was done manually using primitive looms, which used to be a slow and laborious process. Hence, the fabric was considered a coveted commodity. Four-sided shaped fabric pieces were used for garment making to reduce waste.
The seminal art of pattern creation started in the fifteenth century. In place of rectangular uncut fabric, garment pieces were carefully cut according to the size and body's contour. Before the industrial revolution, pattern making was exceptionally admired. Tailors used to work precisely to customise patterns depending on their client's individual measurements, and clothing was elaborate and solely for the rich.
Importance of pattern making
Pattern making converts a sketch into a garment; therefore, it is a link between the design and garment production. Three major elements are there, including interpretations, technology and technique that complete the creation of garment pattern making.
Interpretation
It is the ability to read and understand the pattern design or sketch. The pattern maker is also responsible for understanding its objective, technical challenges, but none of it completes until the design goal is achieved.
Technology
To an enormous extent, the efficient and rewarding customised production of a garment depends on the technological facts interpreted into the pattern making. A pattern maker should have a technical mindset and understand each part's production implementations in the relevant pattern.
Technique
The pattern maker should have an extensive series of tools that can be selected while making different designs to achieve the results.
Pre-requisite
For pattern making, knowledge of basic geometry is a must for a pattern maker. This is because pattern making is based on mathematical and logical calculation, whether it is done manually or using the software.
Meriline Hodge is a reputed author and she writes various articles on pattern making and apparel designing. She suggests using clothes pattern making software to get the best results.
