Psoriasis Disease Treatment In Ayurveda

Psoriasis a skin condition that causes raised bumpy patches. Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that causes issues with the skin. And it’s so much more than the physical symptoms you probably associate with it. There are several different types of psoriasis.
Psoriasis causes the skin to regenerate more quickly than normal. Typically, your skin cells go through a cycle known as cell turnover, starting deep in your skin and slowly rising to the surface.
Usually, this takes about a month, it can take only a few days when you have psoriasis, causing the skin cells to rise too fast and pile up on the surface of your skin. Because of this, people who have psoriasis can have flare-ups that cause the characteristic itchy, scaly skin patches to show up on their skin.
Types of psoriasis
Most people with psoriasis have plaque psoriasis, which presents as elevated, scaly patches known as plaques. While many tend to associate psoriasis with redness, the color of plaques actually depends on your skin color. Plaques may tend to appear brown or violet with gray scales on darker skin and red or pink with ...
... silvery-white scales on lighter skin.
According to the Mayo Clinic, other types of psoriasis include: guttate psoriasis, which shows up as small, dot like lesions; inverse psoriasis, which presents as smooth and shiny lesions in body folds, like under the arms and breasts; and pustular psoriasis, which looks like white, pus-filled blisters.
Lastly, erythrodermic psoriasis is a very severe and rare form of psoriasis. It causes flushed skin over most of the body, severe itching and pain, and flaking.
Where psoriasis appears
Basically, psoriasis can show up wherever you have skin. “Psoriasis can appear anywhere—on the eyelids, ears, mouth and lips, skin folds, hands and feet, and nails.
Mainly psoriasis appears on this area:
• Your elbows and knees
• Your scalp
• Your face
• Your hands and feet
• Your nails
• Your genitals
• In skin folds, like your butt, your armpits, or under your breasts
Psoriasis triggers
While psoriasis likely has a genetic factor, many people are symptom-free for years until environmental factors like stress, sunburn, allergies, diet, certain medications, or even the weather trigger it, according to the Mayo Clinic.
• Stress
• Cold, dry weather
• Infections
• Skin injuries
• Smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke

Ayurvedic view
Many basic Ayurvedic texts have explained skin diseases, which resembles Psoriasis. According these references, Psoriasis can be considered as the vitiation of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Accumulation of low potency poisons (Dooshi vishas), are the basic pathological changes taking place in the system. Irregular food habits, consumption of foodstuffs that cannot be eaten together (E.g.: dairy products with fish), excessive intake of yogurt, black gram, seafood, sour and salted items etc can activate the pathogenesis. Alcohol and tobacco consumption will act as a catalyst here. Ayurveda emphasizes on the effects of stress in the pathogenesis of Psoriasis.
