What is Hand Block Printing?

As the name implies, hand block printing is the process of imprinting a particular design on a fabric i.e., sarees by using a wooden block.

These wooden blocks are manually carved by local craftsmen which are then dipped into natural colors. The dipped blocks are then placed on the saree to give an alluring design to it.


History of Hand Block Print Sarees

While the block printing process originated around 3000 BC in Mesopotamia, it came to India around the 12th century. Since then, hand block printing has been an integral part of the Indian fashion industry.
