Both genders should also have equal opportunities for financial independence through work; enjoy an equal right to education to develop ambitions, talents and interests. Both sexes should share responsibility for taking care of the home and children.

The vital aspect of achieving gender equality is to empower women, with the aim to identify power imbalances to give women more freedom to deal with their own lives without being intimidated.

This will enable women to make decisions for their wellbeing. Promoting gender equality is all about having access to opportunities and rights for both men and women.

Is gender equality an issue for men?

Achieving gender equality infers changes for women and men both. The lives of men are influenced by gender. Societal norms and ideas of masculinity of men as leaders, husbands tend to create demands on men, shaping their behavior. Men are often expected to focus on the material needs of their families instead of caregiving roles.
