Sarah Byrd, a fashion historian and lecturer from the New York University and Fashion Institute of Technology, once said in an interview: “The story of fashion is also the story of revising design, so it’s not often about completely coming up with something new and unoriginal that no one’s ever seen before.

“From the very beginning of time, there’s only so many ways people can approach how to put together fabric into something that goes on the body,” added Byrd.

While trends come and go, some iconic fashion trends retain their position in the later decades as well. The tie-dyes of the ‘60s to the neon hues of ‘80s, the different shades of black, blue, violet impress us and we as customers don’t miss any opportunity to buy >wholesale vintage clothing.

The versatility of Vintage Clothing

Vintage clothing is indeed versatile and what makes it more interesting is the way it makes room for so many styles. A piece of vintage clothing is probably present in the wardrobe of each one of us. It might be not always very ...
... “in fashion” but if you are bold enough to pull it off, you can definitely wear to themed parties, cocktail parties, or just like that.

For many women, vintage clothing has helped women in curating various looks, and some of them rather unconventional. It isn’t very surprising that the lovers of Gothic clothing have switched to Vintage clothing and created individual styles for themselves, that is neither vintage, nor very Gothic, and not modern either.

Most of us out there can think of only pale face, dark clothes and dark makeup when it comes to Gothic fashion, but it isn’t really limited to that. As we all know, Gothic subcultures have evolved over the ages, Gothic fashion as a whole has also evolved over time. And, vintage clothing has definitely a role to play in the former’s evolution.

The origins of Goth

The origin of the contemporary Goth fashion has been found in the Victorian fashion of mourning. The styles that led to the birth of modern Gothic fashion were punk, Elizabethans and Victorians.

The first generation of this fashion movement emerged late in the 1970s and early ‘80s, in the United Kingdom. The music bands, also called “positive punk”, The Damned, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and Banshees characterised this movement. This groups of musicians, theatrical artistes were fascinated by everything romantic, morose and tabooed.

By the late 1980s and early ‘90s, gothic bands started regarding them as gothics, for the first time.

Music bands like Rosseta Stone, The Shroud, London After Midnight were some of the renowned second-generation Gothic bands.

The uniqueness and timeless quality of vintage clothes

Fashion and style statements are often found to be cyclical, i.e. what goes back, comes around. This is evident as we find the retro cuts and vintage styles, hairdos, accessories and make-up take back their positions into modern styling. Trends that are vintage are always easier to mix with the contemporary ones, which leads to the huge fan-following towards the retro styles.

Why vintage style is favoured more is because of its originality and individuality that creates a statement. The dressing styles highlights a person’s personality, be that classic, vintage or gothic. Copying fashion statements never really work out and can fizz out sooner than expected. This is why, fashionistas and social media influencers keep creating looks to stand out and highlight their individuality.
