How To Protect Yourself From Social Media

2020 was an epitome of an example to show us all how fickle our plans for tomorrow are. With our entire life going online in just a snap of a day, the world went digital and engulfed social media with its presence. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp have become go-to platforms for all smartphone users, and regular phones are making ways to introduce these social media apps onto their phones. The reach of social media has expanded exponentially that the price of smartphones has carved its way towards being accessible and affordable to the common man as brands and companies have been catering to the lower economic backgrounds as well.
However, with 2020 the need for a smartphone emerged larger than ever. Earlier smartphones were a luxury, one that if you are not able to afford, did not stop lives. But off late, with work, colleges, schools, basically everyone shifting online has made it a necessity for people to be able to afford smartphones so they can continue their education or work.
With social media, however, comes a humongous baggage of responsibilities. Privacy on social networks have time and again made ...
... headlines as the breach of privacy is certainly easy. There is an extremely thin line between privacy and protection. Social networking sites are a way for people to communicate with their friends and family just a click away. But even the best private social network platforms are flawed when it comes to privacy. Here are some tips on how to maintain your privacy while being on social media -
1. Read the terms and conditions before signing up - Every social networking app furnishes a set of terms and conditions before you sign yourself up on the app. It may seem long and unnecessary, but one should always take a moment and comb through the terms and conditions before clicking or tapping on accept. Some of these terms and conditions are for your best interests of the platform and will also intimate you about the privacy policies that may or may not benefit you. So make sure you educate yourself on them and sign up, so as to not fall in trouble eventually.
2. Do not share private information like address or phone numbers online - SJaring address online can invite unwanted attention. Stalking has become very infamous, and there is no end to it. Cybercrimes have increased exponentially, and they generally start with honest intentions. Hence, privacy on social networks is a must!
3. Be cautious about posting pictures online - Pictures online can be misused in more ways than we can imagine. The technology allows one to edit their pictures to enhance them, but it also allows miscreants to misuse your image posted online and make something else out of it. Also when you post a picture of your home or what expensive products you possess, the picture if exposed to a stranger like a kidnapper or a thief, may cause issues as they can come to your home and steal your belongings or worse, abduct your loved ones.
Connecting with people, albeit, became easier with social networks, but privacy stands to be a major concern for all the users. Make sure you follow these tips and maintain your privacy online to be able to connect with people offline. Choose the best social network platforms with best privacy settings to maintain your privacy the way you want.
