As the term suggests, Blood Pressure is the pressure by which the heart pumps the blood to the body. It is measured in Millimetres of Mercury (mmHg) which is denoted as Systolic/ Diastolic (120/80) The blood pressure uses two numbers which are categorized as-

• Systolic Blood Pressure: Force that is used to pump the blood to the body.
• Diastolic Blood Pressure: This is the force used when the heart rests while beating.

Types of Blood Pressure
High blood pressure
High blood pressure, also known as Hypertension, is often a result of unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as smoking, consumption of excessive alcohol, overweight, and not getting enough exercise.

Low Blood Pressure
Low Blood Pressure, also called Hypotension, is not an alarming situation without symptoms and it is a condition where the flow of blood to the organs of the body is insufficient.

Readings of BP
• Ideal Blood Pressure
Normal readings for a healthy heart are considered to be between 90/60 mmHg and 120/80 mmHg.
• High Blood Pressure
When the readings are 140/90 mmHg or higher, ...
... then it is considered as High BP.
• Low Blood Pressure
Low blood pressure is considered to be lower than the ideal readings i.e., 90/60 mmHg.

Symptoms of High Blood pressure
In case of extremely high BP, there are certain symptoms which may worse with increasing BP which includes severe headaches, nosebleed, fatigue or confusion, vision problems, chest pain, difficulty in breathing, irregular heartbeat, blood in the urine, pounding in your chest, neck, or ears.

Symptoms of Low Blood pressure
Low blood pressure symptoms include dizziness or light headedness, nausea, fainting, dehydration and feeling extremely thirsty. It can also include lack of concentration, blurred vision, cold, clammy, and pale skin, fatigue or even depression.

Control Measures

Eat Healthy

• Limit Sodium
It is essential to limit the amount of salt (sodium) and increase the amount of potassium in your meals in order to manage your blood pressure. Consume plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

• Increase Potassium
Consume leafy greens, high on potassium such as romaine, lettuce, arugula, kale, turnip greens, collard greens, spinach, beet greens, and Swiss chard. Banana, unsalted seeds of pumpkin, squash, or sunflower is also a rich source of potassium.

• Consume Low Fats
Skimmed milk and yogurt are rich source of calcium and low in fats. These are great for lowering increased blood pressure.

• Take food items rich in Omega3 fatty acids
Fatty fish like salmon or mackerel are rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which can reduce inflammation, lower triglycerides and regulate your blood pressure.

• Consume Natural Ingredients that lowers blood pressure
Garlic contains nitric acid which helps in lowering high blood pressure and herbs such as basil, cinnamon, thyme, rosemary helps in cutting your sodium intake.
