Introduction

The progression of water through all around characterized channels is known as drainage and the organization of such channels is known as drainage system.

The drainage example of an area is the aftereffect of the topographical timeframe, nature, and structure of rocks, geology, incline, and so forth.

About 77% of the drainage area comprising of the Ganga, the Brahmaputra, the Mahanadi, the Krishna, and so on is arranged towards the Bay of Bengal.

Then again, 23% containing the Indus, the Narmada, the Tapi, the Mahi, and the Periyar systems release their waters in the Arabian Sea.

A stream channel is a particular area, which is known as the catchment area of that waterway.

An area depleted by a stream and its feeders is known as a drainage bowl.

The limit line isolating one drainage bowl from the other is called as the watershed area.

Centripetal drainage design is shaped when streams release their waters from all headings into a lake or a downturn. For instance, Loktak lake in Manipur.

Lattice drainage design is shaped when the essential feeders of primary waterways stream corresponding to one another and optional feeders go along with them at right edges. For instance, streams in the upper aspect of the Himalayan area.

Order of Drainage

Based on the method of root, nature, and attributes, the Indian drainage is delegated −

The Himalayan drainage and

The Peninsular drainage.
