4 Ways To Treat Cold And Sore Throat At Home

All of us suffer from bouts of cold every now and then. These can be brought on by allergies, flus or bacterial infection and while they’re easily treated, they do tend to get annoying to deal with. Your sleep cycle gets interrupted, too much coughing can cause a strain on your throat and you might even risk infecting people around you if it’s viral or bacterial.
If you’re someone who likes to deal with cough, cold and sore throat at home before depending on chemicals, then we have quite a few home remedies for you.
1. Make a warm tea
Whenever you have a cold, any warm liquid brings a wave of respite to your ailing body. Consider making a warm tea with water, honey, ginger, lemon and thyme to treat your colds. These ingredients are rich in properties known to combat cold and provide relief for any kind of throat infection as well. What’s more, this helpful little recipe is also super delicious and doesn’t feel medicine-y at all. Many people enjoy this concoction even on the daily because of how delicious and yummy it tastes.
2. Warm water gargle
Another warm liquid to the rescue. ...
... When you have a sore throat or even a cough, try doing a warm water gargle. Mix half a teaspoon of salt in lukewarm water and gargle your heart out. The salt helps rid your throat of the mucus that might be the reason for the irritation in the first place. It’ll help soothe any itchiness or scratchiness in your throat in no time, promise! What makes this a popular home remedy is the easy availability of these items in every household and the cost effective nature of the whole process.
3. Hot steam
One of the most annoying byproducts of having a cold is a blocked nose which leads to trouble in breathing. These can be exceptionally irksome when you’re trying to have a good night’s sleep. That’s when this solution comes in the picture. All of us have a facial steamer lying around in the house, don’t we? Taking hot steams is another super-effective cold remedy which has been in use for centuries. The hot steam helps clear up the air passages, thus making it easier to breathe. You’ll end up feeling immensely better after taking a hot steam to clear your breathing. Some people even add a few drops of eucalyptus oil in the water before taking a steam. Eucalyptus is known to have medicinal properties that helps combat cold and sore throats and is immensely beneficial for children.
4. Over the counter drugs
If none of the above home remedies work, then consider taking some external help in the form of lozenges or cough syrup that is available in all medical shops. Cough syrups come in multiple variants like drowsy kinds for adults and non-drowsy kinds for children. Lozenges on the other hand don’t taste like medicine at all and are in fact, fun to chew.
If the cold still persists, then perhaps going to a doctor is a wise decision. They’ll try to find out the reason behind your prolonged cough and cold and will prescribe necessary treatments to be followed.
