Peripheral neuropathy widely occurs in many people. It is a disease that people only worry about once their condition is worse whereby, they are said to have an advanced version of peripheral neuropathy. This condition is accompanied by a lot of suffering. Most of the people found with this disease are diabetic. Peripheral neuropathy symptoms occur as a result of damaged nerves that are unable to transmit nerve signals from the spine to all other body parts. Peripheral neuropathy affects all the patient’s peripheral nerves, motor nerves, autonomic nerves and sensory nerves.
The nerves found in our bodies mimic electrical wiring systems when it comes to how they work and when this disease is present, it damages the system. This mostly leads to patients feeling weak, having tingling sensations and pain in their hands and feet. The level of intensity of neuropathy varies from patient to patient. Persons afflicted by this illness find coordination of their body parts to be a challenge and even movement of their hands and legs may cause them pain. This condition also makes the patient feel let down mentally which makes them ...
... weaker. Neuropathy often leads to patients getting depressed.
People suffering from Peripheral neuropathy disease and its symptoms; claim to feel like they have socks or gloves on even when they are not wearing them because they lose sensation in their hands and feet. This condition is not new and has been misdiagnosed in the past, with other disease related conditions. The biggest complication that comes with the disease is that it causes irreversible damage. No medicine or remedy can cure it and they only prevent more damage.
Diabetic patients are advised to get their feet checked frequently for this disease as it is possible to stop a lot of damage to the body from occurring when it is diagnosed in early stages. Patients are required to practice proper hygiene while also protecting their feet from any infections. In cases where wounds are not noticeable, one’s feet will have no sensation that may help in recognizing the wound due to peripheral neuropathy. High blood sugar levels will only make this situation worse.
What Is Planned For In The Future?
As the saying goes prevention is better than cure. However, there are still many tests being conducted in hopes of treatment by identifying exactly how nerves get damaged. Other areas being researched on include finding out the body’s response to pain caused by neuropathy and creating treatments that can block the process at the brain or even at the spine.
