Influence Of Fast Fashion On The World

Influence Of Fast Fashion On The World
Fashion is moving fast. Fifty years ago women only had two coats. Today there are no more like four seasons. In the western world, there are 52 periods of fashion; one season each week of the year.
But have we considered the real impact of the fashion industry? How and why? How closely do we relate to other people in terms of clothing?
Fashion brands want consumers to buy as many clothing as quickly as possible. The fact is that you will be buying one and the next week when it is too late because there will be something new in stores too. From a consumer point of view, we can have a wardrobe full of clothes and feel like something to wear.
So what is fashion? It is an idea that you should discard clothes not when they are obsolete, but when they have no social value anymore.
Brands can offer cheap clothing, which allows us to get rid of clothes without having to think about the consequences. Also, the fast fashion industry makes us believe that we are rich or rich because we can buy more, by getting $ 5 t-shirts or $ 20 jeans.
Clothing industry be able ...
... to produce fast and cheap fashion, how?
The first reason is that we no longer manufacture our garments in Europe or the United States. While in the '60s the US-made 95% of the garments, today the number has dropped to just 3%. The remaining 97% of outsourcing goes to developing countries around the world. (Source: True Cost Document)
Various companies arrive in countries such as India, China or Cambodia, where workers are much cheaper. Subsequently, they asked local businesses and factories for more affordable products to be able to offer reasonable prices.
Here's an example: Brand X sells their shirts for $ 5, but the Y brand sells for $ 4; so, brand X will follow and say "Hey, Y brand sells them for $ 4, we need them cheap". Business owners in developed countries often find themselves in a position to lower their prices.
If the country does not accept these conditions, they risk the industry going away and becoming poor. Developed countries want the business so badly that there is no other way.
Disasters in the Fast Fashion industry
Also, local businesses have to limit the structures in management and security to reach the requested threshold, leading to disasters such as those that occurred in 2013 at Rana Plaza (Bangladesh, India).
More than 1,129 people died. Long before the disaster, some workers had indicated to their supervisors that there were cracks in the building. However, they are forced to go back inside to work. This is undoubtedly the biggest disaster for the clothing industry.
However, there is very little like Ali Enterprise, with 289 dead. Or at the factory Tazreem Fashion, where 112 more people died. It seems that working under these conditions has become a welcome and common practice in developed countries.
Impact Of Fast Fashion
The fashion and business industries defend the situation with such points as: "sewing is not a dangerous job," or "at least they have a job", or "jobs that Americans and Europeans offer to people in developed countries are way better than the alternatives available in their countries.”
So industry disasters, low wages, children, and labour exploitation… This is okay to forgive, because of the multinational work done for people who have no alternative but to sew. Those who are most vulnerable are also highly paid.
Also, over 85% of women earn at least $ 3 / day (the world's highest-paid workforce). One in every six people in the world today works in the global fashion industry making it the most dependent industry on the planet.
Workers should be rewarded instead of exploited!
Without human capital, cheap labour, cheap labour, the fashion industry would be far from producing such a huge profit.
