Termites seem to be popping up all over the place every year. In fact, almost every state in the Australia and worldwide has had some kind of termite infestation. Even if your state has never had termites before, it’s better safe than sorry. These strenuous pests will gnaw and eat their way through wood, whether you like it or not along with being relatively rapid reproducers, termites usually come in swarms, meaning your wood structure could be severely damaged in a matter of weeks. You definitely want to do everything possible to treat a termite infestation, but the first step should be prevention. Here are the three key steps to termite prevention.

1. Eradicate as Many Food Sources as Possible:

We all know that termites are attracted to wood, so, obviously, if you want to prevent termites from taking over your home, you want to eliminate their access to wood! You probably can’t afford to make your entire house out of steel and glass!, so there’s really nothing you can do about the wood your house is made out of, unless you can somehow make it so your house has a stone layer 3 ft off the ground. ...
... You will learn how to treat your actual house later. It is recommended by Melbourne Termite Control experts if you have any wood logs around your house that you just absolutely can’t get rid of place them on a stand that is at least 2 ft off the ground so that it makes it harder for termites to reach the wood.

2. Stop Dampness:

Subterranean termites, which seem to be more common household pests than dry wood termites, are attracted to any and all moisture sources, especially since they’re blind and can’t tell the difference anyway! Therefore, it is extremely ESSENTIAL that you make sure your house stays well ventilated and moisture-free throughout the years. Subterranean termites cannot survive without a moisture source, so by fixing leaky pipes, drying out/disposing of damp wood, and so on, you will be able to protect your home from subterranean termite invasions.

3. Treat your Soil and Foundation Beforehand! :

This is probably one of the best things to do if you’re building a new house. If you treat the soil beforehand with Termidor and other termiticides and the foundation with Boracare/Premise, then you already have a sort of shield set up for your home! These seem a little costly and tedious, but trust it’ll save you a lot of money and hardships if you do get termites in the future which almost every house gets at least once.

So here are three steps you need to take to effectively prevent termite infestation. Obviously, this is not 100% termite-proof and you may end up having a few termites in your home one day, but your problem will definitely not be as bad as someone’s who didn’t take any of these preventative measures!
