The Black Stone, better known as Hajar-e-Aswad is placed to the eastern corner of Holy Kaabah. The stone is present in Masjid-al-Haram, Makkah, Saudia Arabia. It remains the holiest, most sacred and precious stone in the world as it came from paradise. Therefore, for Muslims, Hajar-e-Aswad holds great spiritual and religious significance.

Here’s a brief description of the history and importance of the black stone in Islam.

Allah Almighty sent it to the earth from Jannah.

Hajar-e-Aswad descended from the heavens. When Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and Hazrat Ismail (AS) were building the Holy Kaabah, Allah Almighty sent the stone from Jannah to be placed inside the haram.

Our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) also validated the fact. He (PBUH) narrated that the Hajar-e-Aswad and Maqam-e-Ibrahim are the
2 jewels of Paradise.

Physical Description;

When Hajar-e-Aswad initially arrived on earth, it was a complete (single) stone in a pure white state. Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that it was whiter than milk but the sins of mankind turned it black afterwards.

Due ...
... to several historical incidents, Today, Hajar-e-Aswad consists of 8 small pieces joined together and enclosed in a silver casing. The biggest of these stones is the size of a date.

Tawaf begins as well as ends at the place of this stone.

Pilgrims have to start and end their tawaf of Holy Kaabah at the place of the Black Stone. It’s a compulsion. No one can start/end their tawaf from any other place/direction around the Holy Kaabah.

Duas made at Hajar-e-Aswad, get accepted.

Duas made close to the place of Hajar-e-Aswad are accepted. The region around the black stone remains crowded all the time. Thus, if sufficient space is present one must proceed to make Dua as close to Hajar-e-Aswad as possible. However, if an appropriate room is not available one must make Dua from such a distance that no one gets hurt or uncomfortable. Indeed, Allah knows the intentions of hearts.

It will Testify on the Day of Judgement.

Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) narrated that, on the day of judgement, Allah Almighty will grant Black Stone the ability to speak and see. Hence, Hajar-e-Aswad will testify in favour of all those people who kissed it.

Istilaam; a ritual of Hajj and Umrah.

Istilaam (Kissing the Hajar-e-Aswad) is one of the obligatory rituals of Tawaf. Pilgrims coming for Hajj and Umrah through their hajj package 2020 UK, or from any other part of the world must fulfil the holy ritual. Without it, tawaf is incomplete. In this regard there are two options; both of them are Sunnah of Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW).

1. If one is close enough to Hajar-e-Aswad that he/she can kiss it physically, it is preferably recommended.
2. If the person is far away and space is not available, one must point its hand in the direction of the Black Stone, and then kiss its hand afterwards.

It should remain clear that Muslims don’t worship the Black Stone but kiss it out of respect, love and sunnah of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).
