Hajar-e-Aswad, also known as the Black Stone, is present in Saudia Arabia. It remains placed on the Eastern corner of the Holy Kaabah present in Masjid-al-Haram, Makkah. Encased in a silver container, the Black Stone is of great religious significance for Muslims. Pilgrims performing Umrah and hajj through hajj packages 2020, kiss it out of respect and love.

Here is the importance of Hajar-e-Aswad in Islam.

1. The stone of Paradise; descend from Heaven

Hajar-e-Aswad is the holiest and most sacred stone present on the earth. It was sent from Paradise to the earth by Allah Almighty. As narrated in many hadiths, the stone descended from the heavens. It is among the two jewels of Paradise; Hajar-e-Aswad and Maqam-e-Ibrahim.

2. Pilgrims start and end their Tawaf at the Black Stone

Pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah, start as well as end their tawaf at Hajar-e-Aswad. It’s a compulsion. The 1st round of the tawaf of Holy Kaabah starts at the Black Stone. In the same way, the last and 7th round also ends ...
... here. No pilgrim can either start or end its tawaf from somewhere else.

3. Whiter than Milk

When Hajar-e-Aswad descended from Paradise, it was whiter than Milk. The Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) himself have said it. That, when it first came down to earth it was whiter than milk, the brightness of which had the ability to illuminate everything from east to west. However, the sins that mankind made afterwards made it black.

4. Kissing Hajar-e-Aswad

Kissing Hajar-e-Aswad is one of the rituals of Hajj and Umrah. It’s also a Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). Since it is placed to the corner of Kaabah, every Muslim is unable to kiss it physically because of the huge crowd of pilgrims. In this case;

1. One should kiss/touch Hajar-e-Aswad with its lips/hands if sufficient space is present, without pushing or hurting anyone.

2. If a person is far away, he/she must point towards it with hand, recite the takbir and then kiss the hand afterwards.

Both of these ways are the sunnah of Muhammad (PBUH). He (SAWW) kissed the black stone when adequate space was present and also pointed towards it and then kissed his hands when the crowd was humongous.
It should be noted that Muslims don’t worship the Black Stone, a misconception lead by non-believers. Muslims kiss it out of respect and sunnah of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). Indeed, Allah Almighty knows the intentions of hearts.

5. Testifying on the Day of Judgement

As narrated in hadith, Allah almighty will grant Hajar-e-Aswad the ability to see and speak on the Day of Judgement. After which, the black stone will testify in favour of all those people who kissed it, in front of Allah Almighty.

Hajar-e-Aswad, initially, was in the form of a complete, single rock. The incidents that occurred in history lead to its breaking into smaller parts. Thus, it now consists of 8 pieces joined together, the biggest of which is the size of a date.
