The Sage of Dezinebox
In 2017, Dezinebox was established as a design startup by Shweta and Abhijeet. To begin with, this design startup was like most of the startups and had presumed wrong assumptions about ...
... the end-customers. With no desire to communicate and reveal their identity, the versatile leaders shunned any contact with clients, which resulted in making the biggest mistake. But later they started communicating and sharing their contact details with clients which proved to be a miracle. “However, the real eye-opener was when graduated from Y-Combinators online startup program and Start-up Leadership Program,” says the dynamic duo.
These programs assisted the competent leaders in understanding that their existing strategies are not working well. They had to start again from the very beginning, which was quite dispiriting. But, Shweta and Abhijeet conquered this obstacle by remodeling, retesting, and redesigning their framework. For them, getting graduated from Y Combinator’s startup school in 2018 was a noteworthy milestone that changed how they used to look at startup. In addition to this, Dezinebox also got a fellowship from SLP (Startup Leadership Program) batch 2018-19. Recently, the company was awarded as “The most Innovative firm of the year in 2019”.

The mission of Dezinebox is to reach out to each & everyone who requires affordable design services. It understands that every customer wish to create his/her dream space. Therefore, the inventive interior designing company offers online design solutions with the ecosystem of product partners and design partners. While designing the space online, its expert team curates all the design elements in the form of a novel online shopping list with a hyperlink to assist the customers for shopping. Using its innovative and unique approach, the company has developed online products such as color consultancy, flooring ideas, lighting ideas, Vastu consultancy, furniture designing, wall décor ideas ranging from Rs.1000-Rs.7000 per room. Along with this, it also has completed designing architecture projects like homes, farmhouses, schools, hotels, and colleges.

This transition was not easy for us and moreover for our team. We, as a team, inevitably encountered many learning curves in our startup journey,” say the versatile leaders of Dezinebox. With every experience, the team matured and finally, become an excellent blend of young architects and experienced designers. Today, its team comprises of architects and designers from all major cities of India.

The Co-founding duo states, “When we started two years back, customers never believed us as they couldn’t see us. They couldn’t think how we would design their spaces without going there and without meeting them?” But, they didn’t give up and through their sheer commitment and determination; they gained the trust of their valuable customers. And now there are many successful projects on their name like, a G+3 bungalow of 4300sft at Fatehabad, Hotel & restaurant at Goa, a luxury apartment at Alibag, a Living room at Srinagar and many more, a home at Buldhana, residential interiors at Pune, Jaipur. This showcases their passion, creativity, and dedicated to delivering a consistent level of experience for every customer.
Facing hurdle head-on
The major drivers behind the success of Dezinebox are Shweta and Abhijeet. Shweta is an accomplished architect by profession and had her own architectural practice. At Dezinebox, the passionate architect role is to manage design. In contrast to her, Abhijeet is a competitive investment banker and had worked with startups after resigning from Citi Bank. The start-up evangelist role in the company is to handle all operations regarding technology, marketing & strategy. According to them, “The role of the founders is always that of a parent to a newborn. We need to care, nourish, enrich, and empower that baby in all possible ways without thinking ‘what about me?’.”
Since the inception of Dezinebox, the dynamic duo has faced numerous challenges in which the biggest one was to convince their customer for online design. It was quite difficult for them to handle the clients without a face-to-face meeting. But slowly, they realized that they need to gain their clients’ trust first. To achieve this, they ran multiple campaigns and offered complimentary online services to prove that online design can work.
Future Roadmap
The Co-founding duo is looking forward to making innovative designs. Hence, both leaders with their skilled team began providing services in the Middle East & then realized that their ecosystem was not equipped to handle overseas clients then. After serving the Indian market, they are planning to focus on catering to foreign customers, especially the NRI community.
