Marine coatings are a type of protective coating used to protect ships, vessels, tankers and other materials from salt water and fresh water, mostly in the marine environment. A marine coating has unique mechanical properties, so it can provide the surfaces on which it is applied with superior protection. One coating does not fit all, and given that your vessel can need to deal with to deal with the Indian weather as well as the conditions of the high seas, choosing the right paint for the job is critical.

1.Bottom marine paint for the underwater hull
"Bottom marine paint" is a paint used under the waterline to protect a vessel. Also known as antifouling paint, its main task is to prevent the formation of marine life on the hull of a boat. Not just an aesthetic problem, this process; micro-organisms, plants and hull animals often reduces the maximum speed of the ship, increases fuel consumption, decreases durability damages the hull and can bring invasive species into foreign waters.
Two types of antifouling paint are available:
• Hard film antifouling refers to a hard base paint that leaches biocide ...
... when in contact with water, preventing marine growth without paint eroding. It is often used by high speed ships and due to the impact of the air; the hardness of the surface will not fade. Once the biocide is leached off, the paint will stay so that the antifouling coating will need another coat.
• Eroding antifouling coatings wear away by the friction of being in the water, slowly reducing the thickness and exposing fresh biocide layers as it does. It reduces maintenance because the hull has less paint build-up. For eroding antifouling, there are both single and multi-season options.

2. Topside marine paints above the waterline
Topside marine paints are the coatings used for the upper hull, interior, and deck areas of a boat, or those areas above the waterline. They protect the boat from water, salt, sun, sand and the bumps and scratches that will accumulate with time. Essentially, there are 3 types of topside paint, all of which are moisture and abrasion resistant, can withstand hull expansion and contraction, and can withstand UV damage while preserving color and finish.

1. Alkyd enamel is a one-part topside paint that is glossy and easy to apply. They require fewer coats than the two-part polyurethanes and expand and contract with the hull better, particularly good with wooden vessels. These paints require an annual reapplication for maintenance, and have the lowest gloss and colour retention of the three options.
2. One-part polyurethane is a high solids topside paint that is easy to apply and to touch up if damaged. For interior and exterior surfaces.
3. Two-part polyurethane outperforms one-parts in hardness, gloss and colour retention, and UV resistance, but is more expensive and difficult to apply. They are also less flexible than one-part polyurethanes.

3. Specialty marine paint and coatings
Topside and bottom marine paints provide the ship with initial safety; however, other advanced marine paint systems are needed to complete the system. These include slip-resistant coatings, for example, and tank protection coatings.
