The motor oil that flows through your vehicle
is like your engine's blood and it should be replaced on a regular basis. It is incredibly essential to not overlook your engine's oil requirements. The engines fucntionality depends on the correct use of oil and this definitely includes knowing how to change the oil in your car. You have invested a lot of capital in your car and with the proper oil care it will be able to last for years to come. The following steps will explain how to the change the oil in your car.

The first step in an oil change is to get the old stuff out of there. The oil drains out of the oil pan at the very bottom of your engine. The oil is held in by a drain plug that looks like a big bolt at the bottom of the pan.
Locate the oil filter wrench. Take the socket off the socket wrench and set it next to the drain plug. Slip the oil filter wrench onto the socket wrench. You'll probably want to use the short extension, too. The oil filter wrench is like a round dog collar that only chokes ...
... in one direction. Set it up to "grab" or "choke" counterclockwise. Slip it over the oil filter and give it a tug. It shouldn't be that tight. When you feel it give, loosen it a little more, then slide the wrench off and do the rest by hand. Careful -- it has hot oil in it! Make sure your face is not under it. Remove it all the way and pour the contents into the drain pan. Set the used oil filter right-side-up on the newspaper.

Locate the oil filler cap on the valve cover and use a funnel to pour in the oil. Again check our car manual for how much oil you need. Most have a capacity of 4.5 or 5.5 litres. If you don't know how much to use, add 4.5 litres, check the oil level and add a bit more if it's low. Replace the oil filler cap.

Finally, when the oil flow has stopped, carefully screw the oil plug back in, making sure the threads catch properly and it screws in firmly, but not too tight. Open one of the bottles of new oil and dip the tip of your finger in it. Rub the oil along the gasket ring and then place the rubber ring on top of your new filter. Finally, screw the new filter into the engine where the old one was located, just firmly enough, but not too tight, usually only ½ turn or so after the rubber gasket touches.
