Organizational Leadership In 2019: How To Stay In Trend
The future of work is now, and it’s in a constant state of change. What used to work in organizational leadership is now quickly becoming outdated, which is why it’s imperative for industry leaders to keep up with the most dynamic leadership trends of 2019.
2018 saw various trends change our approach to business, from the block chain vogue to the increased utilization of AI tools. What hasn't changed, however, is the necessity of businesses being ready to pivot and adapt to these new trends when needed and for CEOs in managers to lead the way in doing so.
You’ll set yourself up for success when you invest in developing your current employees to help them master the latest changes in technology. Not only will it improve employee engagement and loyalty, but this move will also help you shape your company's future.
Agile companies run on agile employees. While high employee engagement is critical to a company’s performance, training your workforce to change and stay ahead of the competition will also depend largely on how well even the most engaged individual employees function under pressure.
Higher ...
... workforce retention will stem from a clearer understanding in employees across all levels of a company on how to respond productively to their inner experiences and emotions with a clear head and open mind. We believe that a workplace that is more open to the full range of human emotions is actually what allows for innovation.
Over the last five years, millennia’s have taken up leadership roles and strategic positions across various levels within organizations. In 2019, the first line of Gen-Z professionals enters the workplace, adding another layer of complexity for HR managers. On the other hand, Baby Boomers are retiring at a rapid clip, which can lead to a significant skills shortage as well as leadership succession challenges.
These age cohorts come from different cultural and economic backgrounds, and the management styles that work for one group may not work for another. Focus on creating an environment where each group feels valued and motivated to give their best effort. HR managers will have to maintain a careful balance between disruptive technology deployment and seamless legacy transformation to address all these various needs.
There is also widespread concern among recruiters that the soft skills gap is widening with the technologically savvy but soft-skill-poor Gen Z employees entering the workforce.
This challenge can be overcome by offering soft skills training to employees and encouraging them to refine their social skills. An introduction to soft skills training may include brainstorming sessions where employees list the possible uses for various soft skills or helping them role play simulated on-the-job scenarios to discover different situational outcomes.
The full-time employment model is no longer practical. Research and studies have shown that long working hours make you less productive. Leaders across all organizational levels must revise their employment model to put individual performance at the core of their development – regardless of where and when it physically takes place.
Working on the go, at home or allowing flexible hours outside the traditional 9-to-5 office environment can work wonders with staff productivity. Acknowledging that employees have personal lives and allowing them to fit work in accordingly can generate strong company loyalty and more effective results. This approach is an excellent way to respond to the needs of “purpose” and “meaning” that many young employees are seeking today.
The key to getting on top of these leadership trends is through proper planning and execution, so leaders and companies must be prepared to embrace these continuous changes before they get left behind.
