Gestalt And Person-centered Therapy Debate
Good morning everyone, my name is (provide your name) I will be moderating the following debate between two psychologists who vast skills on their field of profession. Each of the debaters is a highly qualified professional in the field of psychology and are here today to discuss the gestalt and person-centered therapy forms of psychology. I have designed a series of questions that I will ask the debaters and each one of them will have an opportunity to respond to each of the questions. The debate focuses on the understanding of the person-centered and the Gestalt therapy perspective.
Ladies and gentlemen, I will introduce each debater and give each a chance to give us a brief insight of their ideas regarding there are of expertise.

The gestalt therapy takes into account the individual’s experience in the current moment, the relationship between the therapist and the client relationship and the self-regulating alterations that people make resulting from their overall situation. Laura Perls, Fritz Perls, and Paul Goodman developed the therapy perspective in the 1940's and the 1950's.
On my right is Davis Peterson, who is a psychologist expert in the field of Person-centered therapy perspective Peterson will also give us an insight on his understanding of his field of expertise.
Good morning, my name is Davis Peterson, I am a psychologist expert specialized in the field of Person-centered therapy perspective. The Person-centered therapy (PCT) also referred to as the client-centered therapy is a type of talk psychotherapy that aims to provide the client with a chance to develop a sense self so that they can realize the how their feelings, attitudes and behavior are negatively affected. Carl Rogers developed the therapy in 1940s and 1950s and it has been a useful tool in solving psychological problems. The theory has proved to be effective in popular in treatment.
Ladies and gentlemen, the debate is officially opened, and the first question goes to both debaters. There has been a heated contest on which of the two therapies is the most appropriate therapy to treat psychological problems. I would request each of our debaters to defend his therapy by explaining to us why they feel that their perspective is the best therapy to treat the psychological problems. Let us start with the ladies first - Clara.
Thank you, moderator, for giving me this chance first let me start by defining psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is the process in which someone with emotional and mental problems talks to another person usually a therapist about his or her problems. The Gestalt therapy perspective focuses on treating the emotional or mental problems by creating awareness of the affected individual so that the client can come to a resolution by integrating feeling, thinking and the sensing process. This therapy emphasizes on the current experience and the direct consciousness of emotions and actions. The therapy helps the client to focus on the present when it comes to their experience and feelings. Not relying on the past and the future helps one to overcome the current problems. Therefore, I feel that the Gestalt therapy is the way to go for the treatment of emotional and other mental problems.
Peterson
The person-centered therapy is the way forward in the treatment of mental problems. The person’s experience is the standard and the basis therapeutic effects. Individuals experience has an extensive influence on the person’s emotional and mental state, and one can use this fact to overcome any mental problem. The client should have a belief that he or she is truly a therapist and should be genuine to own self to complete the therapeutic process. One cannot solve the current problems without looking back for self-assessment and to determine the possible cause of the problem. The person-centered therapy gives an individual a sense of belonging and can reveal true feelings while gaining self-growth. Thus, this facilitates the recovery process.
