Introduction
Social media encompasses the websites and applications that allow users to develop and share content as well as participating in networking. At present, there are many social media platforms that allow entertainment and communication. In education and research, social media is an essential tool that scholars cannot ignore. On the contrary, some ethical issues arise in its use for educational purposes. The advancement in technology through social media is an important aspect in the success of a student. From the research studies conducted previously, social media improves student participation in learning and the level of literacy. However, the adoption rate of the use of social media especially by scholars in education is low. On the other hand; researchers, teachers, and learners require understanding the potential ethical issues that arise from the use of social media in learning. There is a need for further research on the topic to unlock the underlying potential of social media in education. The choice of the topic is due to the slower incorporation of social media in learning by teachers despite understanding the associated benefits. The incorporation of social media in education has many benefits that teachers, learners, and researchers can tap, but should also consider the potential ethical concerns.

From the findings of the research, it is evident that there are increased privacy concerns and the uncertainty of the informed consent in the use of the mobile devices on various social media platforms. The study gives some ethical challenges as well as a framework to help the educational researchers understand the ethical challenges in the use of mobile devices and the social media. The ideas discussed are in line with the research topic in that; there need to be control measures on the use of social media for educational purposes. Though social media in education is beneficial, there are ethical concerns that people cannot ignore. Thus, it’s important to understand the ethical challenges when using social media in education.

The authors note that the trend raises the need for having an ethical internet research to ensure the professional integrity and ethical respect for the participants. As the researchers explain, ethical issues arise in online research due to lack of standard practices in educational research. As such, the article is useful in the research project since it provides information about the expected challenges in the use of social media in education. However, the article serves as a supplement to other articles in the research that address ethical issues in the use of social media.

The article helps to explore the use of social media and by educational scholars as a conference backchannel. The researchers sought to identify the participant’s purposes, their practices, and perceptions on their use of social media. The researchers used a qualitative interview for data collection. The study alongside other previous studies showed that social media impacts the participation of scholars in conference meetings. The research shows that social media has an effect on the participation of scholars in learning platforms. Social media usage in education can be effective in increasing the level of participation of the learners on various areas of learning. The learners cam use the social media to share ideas, like the case in the research conducted. I find the article suitable for research on the effects of social media on education since it provides a clear picture of the issues on the ground. However, further research is necessary to find out the contribution of social media to enhancing participation in learning.

The American Ceramic Society Bulletin conducted a survey on the use of social media in research. The survey had 1600 participants, and only 15 percent used Twitter, 28 percent used YouTube, and 39 percent use face book. The findings indicated that many scholars do not use the social networks available in sharing scientific findings and also connecting with others. The survey showed that many scholars do not use the social media to share their findings due to slowed adoption of policies in their universities. The information presented in the research is relevant to the research topic since it reveals the rate of adoption of the use of social media in research and sharing of ideas. The social media is underutilized as a powerful platform for sharing educational ideas. However, the author notes that the major challenge of the slowed adoption is a lack of policies that promote the practice.

Thibaut sought to understand the use of a social networking site by primary school teachers and students with learning purposes. The principle purpose of the study was to establish whether the social networking site promotes learning and the new literacy. The researcher used field observations, interviews, and a survey in data collection. The findings show that the use of social networking sites expands space for learning and teaching thereby helping students to engage more in self-directed learning and peer-teaching. Social media is a powerful platform for learning opportunities, and the success of integrating digital technologies into the classroom is enormous. However, as the author explains; it is challenging to draw the relationship between the social media tools and social learning. The article is relevant to the project topic since it provides comprehensive information about the incorporation of social media in learning. It is evident that social media has significant positive effects on education.
