As children, we have always thought of circular stairs as some sort of game equipment suited for our make-believe worlds. We relished the idea that it gave off a magical stairway to the clouds feel, hence the response to the call of fantasy.

In real life, also known as the adult world, these serve as the ideal tool for maximizing floor space and is considered as a decorative instrument to beautify our abodes and surroundings. Shapes, textures and finishings vary according to a person's tastes and wants.

A grand staircase may be branded as grand depending on floor position (usually in the middle of the establishment's entrance), height, width and composition. A simple or muted version would be placed somewhere in the far corner of a room and allows enough space for one person to walk through at a time.

No matter how magnificent and space-saving spiral staircases can be, we cannot ignore the alluring call of certain fabricated speculations or ghost stories that have been surrounding legendary spiral stairs ...
... for centuries. There are movies, commercials, and fables depicting spooky scenarios and unsightly visuals that oftentimes succeed in raising goosebumps and giving us the creeps.

One of the most popular spiral stairs ghost story is about the Tulip Stairs of Britain which was built in 1635. This work of art was branded as the first geometric circular staircase. It symbolizes the heritage and status of Queen Henrietta Maria's French clan - known as Bourbon.

In 1966, a Reverend and his wife visited the Queen's mansion and took a picture of the well-known stairs. When he had it developed, he noticed that there was a white silhouette of a woman leaning at the end with both extended arms clasping on the railings. The terrified couple swore that there was not a single person - other than themselves - around when they took the picture. The photo developer examined it and declared that the photograph was devoid of alterations and was obviously untampered.

There is no supporting evidence as to who the ghost could be; but it has been said that during the 1600's, a maid jumped to her doom down the Tulip Stairs and died. The conclusions came to a halt regarding the ghost's identity upon hearing this tragedy.
