The Rise Of The Blackberry Handset

BlackBerry phones were the number one choice for business. They started life as two-way pagers in 1999 then they lead the way in the smartphone market in 2002 when emailing, calling, texting and web browsing were introduced.
However, the smartphone market is now awash with handsets that do everything a BlackBerry can. The i-phone, in particular, thanks to its unbelievably successful advertising campaign that also ties in its computers ? Macs ? and music software ? i-tunes ? has taken the mobile phone world by storm. However, BlackBerry is fighting back.
BlackBerry is going back to basics and what made it so popular in the first place. It doesn''t like to over complicate and is keeping things simple with specifications that have the business user in mind without any unnecessary extras. Two of the best BlackBerrys on the market right now are the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and the BlackBerry Storm2.
The main difference is that the Storm2 has a touch screen keypad whereas the Bold 9700 has a QWERTY keypad. Other than that they both offer the same high-standard features that all BlackBerrys have offered. Internet is ...
... super fast, there is enough memory to get lost in as well as PC and Mac synchronisation. They are effectively your computer on the go.
On 1 April 2009, BlackBerry launched App World. The road was bumpy at first, but App World is now regarded as one of the best app stores on the web. This is because it is so easy to use and functional, just like the phones. Seeing as they are primarily designed as business phones, the best apps are to assist with this purpose.
One very handy app for business people on the go is the WiFi File Transfer App. This allows you to send files instantly from BlackBerry to computer and vice versa as well as BlackBerry to printer. This means you can print things from your BlackBerry at the client''s office, at home or even in an internet cafe if you are on the move.
The new SHAPE Services IM app is the new way to stay connected without having to spend a penny. You can send instant messages to colleagues, clients, friends and family on MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Facebook and Skype and it''s all paid for through advertising.
If you have either of the two phones mentioned above, then you will also be able to download BBC iplayer. This means you can stay on top of world news, sport and even catch your favourite TV show on the way home from the office. Bonny Kominek is an expert in communications technology.
