3d Network Hockey Game Launched By Msg
Hockey may never be the same after a 3-D telecast was produced and aired on March 24, 2010. The NHL partnered with MSG to deliver the Islanders/Rangers game in 3D all from the Madison Square Garden. It was the first 3D network hockey game to have ever been produced. MSG is one of the industry leaders in delivering up-to-date and current technology for viewers. They have a reputation for being on the cutting edge of the industry ever since 1998 when they were also the first to provide sports games in High Definition. They first did this by producing Rangers and Knicks home games in HD.
The 3D broadcast started with a pre-game viewing party at the Madison Square Garden Theater. In this special party there were many former Rangers players that came including Ron Duguay, Nick Fotiu, Dan Blackburn, Mark Messier, and many others. They also had some giveaways and contests to keep the fans happy. The telecast was shown on a Cablevision channel as well as a few other providers. Tickets to the event cost around twenty bucks and the seats were filled before the screening took place.
The way that the game was captured was through ...
... the use of technology that captures video in 3D imagery. These cameras use pixel enhancing software and were produced by 3ality Digital. 3ality Digital was the company who did the 3D productions of the Premiere League Soccer broadcast as well as the NFL and college football broadcasts. They have done a lot of work behind the scenes and it is paying off.
The president of MSG media, Michael Bair, talked about how MSG has always been a leader in new technology and that it makes sense that they would extend it into 3-D TV. He talked about their initial plunge into the High Definition scene and how that has helped pave the way for them to continue with their innovative traditions. MSG has plans to completely renovate the building they are in to make the arena a better experience for all who come there to enjoy sporting events. This remodeling venture looks to completely re-outfit the arena from top to bottom and do even more to help the trainers and athletes who will be performing. This new facility should be the new standard for arenas and will be packed with all of the newest technology that the world has to offer.
The truth of the matter is that 3D telecasting has the potential to completely change the way we watch sports. High Definition Television did this just a few years back, and the way that technology is improving it makes sense that it would be time for another jump. 3D is becoming more of a mainstream thing and as it continues to pick up popularity there will be more demand for games in this type of setting. There are still a few bugs to be worked out when it comes to 3D technology, but there is a good chance it will soon be the standard viewing method for sports fanatics everywhere.
