The latest smartphone to implement the Android operating system has just been released by the mobile phone giant Sony Ericsson. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has a slick touch screen design and is jam packed with features and application capabilities too.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 looks similar to other touch screen handsets like the popular HTC Hero smartphone and the Apple iPhone. Like these models, it features a camera mounted to the back of the handset and has a minimal design.

As with the iPhone, there is no keypad to speak of. Instead, text and phone numbers have to be entered via an on screen keyboard. It is quite a large phone, not quite as big as recent monsters such as the Nokia N900 or the HTC HD2, but certainly bigger than your average cellphone.

The first thing that strikes you when using the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is its incredible speed. Thanks to its super powerful processor, the 1GHz Snapdragon, the handset makes app and internet access a smooth and superfast experience.

You will have no trouble downloading large amounts of audio and video files, as well as apps and pictures thanks ...
... to the removable 8 gigabyte Micro SD memory card that comes with the handset, and Xperia X10 is not lacking in useful features, which include GPS, HDSPA, DLNA, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities.

Using the Android operating system as its base, Sony Ericsson have gone on to develop a more user friendly interface with their Xperia X10 model by implementing the Nexus UX interface to tweak and improve the standard Android system.

The camera is a particularly impressive feature, with an 8.1 megapixel resolution, smile detection, touch focus, and a Xenon flash. It can also record high resolution video at an impressive 30 frames per second.

App fans will not be disappointed as the X10 allows you to run not only Android apps, but applications designed for the Nexus UX interface as well. A number of applications come ready loaded with the handset, including the ever popular Google Maps app, as well as Youtube access. Bonny Kominek is an expert in communications technology.
