It isn''t often that menswear designers take wearibility as their theme ? but at the 2010 shows, the catwalk was dominated by stylish, contemporary pieces which would translate easily to streetwear. There were no extravagances, no eccentric nuances. Silhouettes were classic, colours were muted and designs were contemporary; never has the catwalk been more accessible.

Nowhere did designers give way more to the contemporary and wearable than when it came to colour. Grey was a popular shade, with tones ranging from dove to muted silver. Prada featured a range of men''s clothes in a myriad of subtle colours, showing against a sombre background to emphasise the connections with the current global climate.

Not all designers channeled their creativity in such a gloomy vein, however. Armani stuck to muted shades, but Versace favoured white and pale creams, and Gucci showed suits in warm tones such as flame red. Cavalli went even further, daubing clothes with splashes of yellow, green and even pink.

When it came to cut, silhouettes tended to be neat and contemporary. Think tailored trousers, nipped-in waists and ...
... defined shoulders. V-shaped trousers were also favoured by many designers, with ankle tapering seen at both Prada and Versace.

The one area where designers tended to deviate from the prevailing obsession with monochrome was in their top collections. Wet-look fabric, techno mesh and oversized patterns were all popular, while many models flashed a little flesh in tight trunks and open vests.

With summer in mind, some collections embraced a travel theme. Oversized beach bags dominated, and comfortable sports shoes and easy slacks also appeared across the board ? good news for those who like to teem fashion with comfort. Wear with a sparkly top or a patterned shirt to bring this look up to date.

When it came to accessories, designers kept it minimal, with models often sporting oversized bags and little else. Plastic sunglasses were seen in some shows, as were rounded shoes and suede boots.

Of course, no collection based on a wearability theme would be complete without a touch of denim. D
