Stay Young With Resveratrol

Resveratrol is receiving increasing attention from the health and naturopath community these days. Although long has it been known that a glass of red wine every now and then can have beneficial effects, resveratrol has become one of the leading supplements on the market.
Resveratrol is a phyloalexin a substance produced naturally by many plants when they are under attack. When certain plants are plagued by pathogens, bacteria or fungi, a reaction is triggered in which this substance is produced.
Recent studies reveal that this substance actually further triggers anti-aging properties in animals. Other studies have however failed to show an increase in the lifespan of mice. However, resveratrol has been proven effective at lowering blood sugar levels, and having beneficial cardiovascular effects. It has also been shown to be useful as an anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory nutrient in mice and rats.
Found in the skin of red grapes, resveratrol is now sold as a nutritional supplement. Topically applied, resveratrol has been shown to reduce skin cancer damage and incidence in mice exposed to UVB rays. ...

Further studies have revealed that resveratrol has preventative effects in mammary tumors in animals. Resveratrol has proven most effective against cancerous tumors in which it can come in direct contact with such those of the gastrointestinal tract and skin.
In November of 2008 further experiments concluded that dietary supplementation with resveratrol reduced plaque formation in animal brains by a significant amount. This dramatic study is good news for researchers looking into Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. Diseases such as these are linked to plaque formations in the brain.
As of yet there are no known side effects. There are many beneficial effects and further research seems promising. Because studies in humans are still limited, pregnant and lactating women are advised to hold off on supplementation just yet. Further research in human subjects will help the medical community decipher how and in what ways resveratrol might best be used.
At present, resveratrol supplementation boosts a great deal of positive effects. Its ability to increase the health and lifespan of worms, flies and other insects is continuing to arouse interest and has made it a top anti-aging formula. Resveratrol has the potential to revolutionize the skin care industry. It's protective effects against skin cancer and its anti-aging properties make it a heavenly combination for skin care manufacturers.
So if you are looking to get some of the benefits of red wine but would like to forgo the calories, alcohol content, stained teeth and other chemicals or preservatives, try opting instead for resveratrol supplementation.
