It is said that every eleven seconds, a woman is attacked; it goes without saying that senior citizens are not exempt from this terrifying statistic. Therefore, it makes perfect sense to become informed, and take the steps necessary to prevent the danger of an attack. Many senior citizens mistakenly believe that they do not have the ability to defend themselves against potential thieves, robbers, and other criminals, but this is far from the case. In fact, there are a few quick tips that will boost self defense practices that senior citizens can benefit from quickly.

The first tip to consider is to invest in self defense training. Learning how to defend yourself properly has multiple benefits for senior citizens. For starters, the more proper instruction you receive, with respect to defending yourself safely against physical threats of violence, reduces your risk of injury should the worst happen. Self defense training is also great exercise!

Tip number two is to be sure to equip yourself with the right tools. A personal alarm, for example, can prevent many attacks from happening for one very important reason: ...
... would-be criminals don't like anything that draws attention to their activities. A personal alarm produces a sharp, shrill noise that is audible from up to a quarter-mile away. However, such an alarm on its own doesn't need to be your only line of defense, and should be paired with something that can give you the advantage quickly: pepper spray.

Indeed, pepper spray allows you to defend yourself and push the attacker away from you. When the subject of pepper spray is mentioned, many people often worry that they are using something that will permanently blind an attacker. That's a natural fear; as much as we do not want to be attacked, we also don't wish to permanently injure someone else. Thankfully, the effects of the pepper spray are not permanent and do fade away after an hour or so, giving you plenty of time to leave the danger zone.

The final tip to better self defense is to simply be a less appealing target in the first place. When outdoors, this means being as nondescript as possible -- fine jewelry should be worn discreetly, since this gives potential thieves an obvious target. When inside the house, you want to keep important valuables out of sight -- but not necessarily in a traditional locked safe. Burglars know there's a safe waiting for them, so they can build in time to overcome the safe if necessary.

However, if you look into a diversion safe you can sidestep that problem easily. Simply put, a diversion safe takes ordinary looking household items, like a can of shaving cream, and creates a special hollow compartment inside that can hold small valuables quite well. This is not to say that traditional safes aren't functional, and that you should be concerned about having one, but diversion safes are definitely something worth looking into for one of a kind, and timeless items that would be otherwise difficult to replace.

All things considered, better self defense capabilities are reachable by just about every person -- and senior citizens are definitely not exempt from that statement. In fact, with the information in this guide, you should have no problem gaining better self defense capabilities in no time at all!
