So you've just moved into your new dream home (or apartment)! There are many ways to improve the look and feel of your new abode. Redecorating can be complicated and costly, or it can be as simple as repainting and adding accents that appeal to your own sense of style.

One of the easiest ways to make your mark on your new nest is to add the little touches that personalize and embellish the space with your personality. Whether you own your new home or are just renting, a well-paced star lamp or star lantern can really add some pizzazz to an otherwise bland interior.

These cool hanging lanterns come from India and are entirely made by hand. They say there is a star lamp to fit any style. A simple solid-colored star lamp may be just the ticket for that room where a little dash of color is just what's needed to spice things up. Star lamps come in just about every color imaginable. There are also versions made with handmade papers that have small flower petals or blades of grass for a more Zen appearance.

On the other end of the spectrum, a star lantern with rich and exotic colors may be required to really ...
... liven up that plain paint job. Some of these cool lights have sections cut out and bits of tissue paper pasted inside to create the appearance of a stained glass window. A star lantern with tissue paper backed cut outs has a certain dimensionality that you don't see with a star lamp that is just made from a solid color.

Regardless of whether you go with the solid or multi color stars, when lit from within with a regular light bulb, these lovely little lamps make themselves known. They cast random shapes of light and shadow across the room that adds depth and interest not found with other accents.

You can even changed things up by changing the light bulb. Many of the majore retailers like Walmart, Home Depot or Loewe's carry light bulbs in a variety of colors. Adding a blue bulb to a white lantern will completely change the look and feel of your star lantern. For a more dramatic effect, try adding a rainbow colored bulb or a stained glass type bulb to your paper star lamp.

Hanging a paper lantern is as easy as hanging a picture. Determine where you want the star to hang ( corner is usually the best place), then put a swag hook in the ceiling using a drywall anchor and you are ready to go. Star lamps can be hung individually or for more impact, try hanging two or three together in a cluster.

If you're looking for an affordable and easy way to embellish your surroundings, check out the resources available online. Like most things on the web, there are great selection, terrific prices and lots of tips on unusual ways to use them. That star lamp (also called a star lantern) may be just what you need to lighten things up without breaking the budget.
