Wayanad was formed as the 12th district of Kerala carved out of Kozhikode and Kannur districts. The word Wayanad means the Land of Paddy Fields. Known for the numerous indigenous tribal's in this area, Wayanad is set on the majestic Western Ghats with altitudes ranging from 700 to 2100 m.
